The Center for Academic, Career and Student Services (
ACSS) in the Wilson College of Textiles supports students through all stages of their NC State journey. Exploration events, pre-college programs and individual visits are a few of the opportunities that
ACSS provides for prospective students and their families to learn more about Wilson College. Current students receive support from the exceptional

Essential Job Duties |
The Academic Advisor will provide exceptional and proactive advising to current and prospective Textiles students based on a developmental philosophy of advising following
NACADA standards. They will maintain an advising caseload of approximately 130-150 students. They will also teach assigned sections of T 101, a first year experience course offered fall and spring.
Additional responsibilities will include:
- Assist with ACSS events such as New Student Orientation, Open House, Scholarship Interview Weekend, Graduation, information sessions, etc.
- Support and advise students toward participation in high impact experiences, such as study abroad, undergraduate research, internships, etc.
- Coordinate various advising-related initiatives or programs for current or prospective Textiles students
- Participate in ongoing professional development related to advising and remain informed on degree requirements and university policies
- Support the Associate Director of Academic Services in other areas related to academic advising and student support
- Serve on various college and/or university committees

Qualifications
Minimum Education and Experience |
- Completed Master's Degree in Counselor Education, Higher Education or related field
- 2 semesters of experience in academic advising
- Experience teaching T 101, or similar course
|
Other Required Qualifications |
- Must be willing to work occasional evenings and an average of 3-4 weekends per year
- Demonstrate ability to work with a range of personalities and possess strong interpersonal skills
- Demonstrate strong communication skills: oral, written, and presentation
- Demonstrate knowledge of principles, practices, and ethics of undergraduate advising, as recommended by NACADA
- Proven commitment to fostering student development
- Ability to establish priorities, work independently, and proceed with objectives with minimal supervision
- Commitment to working in a team environment and willingness to support departmental and college initiatives

Preferred Qualifications |
- 1-2 year academic advising experience at NC State University
- Familiarity with undergraduate majors in the Wilson College of Textiles and/or the fashion and textile industries
