Summary of Job Duties:The Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology at UAMS, in partnership with the Winthrop P. Rockefeller Cancer Institute, is seeking a Research Associate to support interdisciplinary projects at the interface of protein engineering, structural biology, and chemical biology, with a focus on programmed cell death pathways (e.g., apoptosis, ferroptosis, necroptosis, pyroptosis).

This position is ideal for a candidate with a strong foundation in biochemistry who is interested in contributing to sample preparation and structural biology studies involving cryo-EM, X-ray crystallography, and NMR spectroscopy. The individual will work closely with staff scientists in a highly collaborative and innovative research environment. Qualifications:
  • Bachelor of Science (BSc) in Biochemistry or a related discipline PLUS a minimum of two (2) years of hands-on research laboratory experience involving testing and analysis.

Additional Information:

Responsibilities:

  • Perform protein expression in bacterial, mammalian, and insect cell systems

  • Purify and optimize proteins for use in cryo-EM, X-ray crystallography, and NMR spectroscopy

  • Conduct protein crystallization, freezing, and preparation for shipment to national structural biology facilities

  • Assist in negative staining and cryo-EM vitrification techniques

  • Support initial protein visualization and analysis

  • Maintain accurate, detailed experimental records and contribute to data interpretation

  • Prepare reports and presentations on research progress

  • Participate in regular team meetings and contribute to collaborative research efforts

  • Perform additional duties as assigned
