SUMMARY

Seeking energetic and healing minded individuals to help develop a new position in healthcare, the Life Care Specialist. The Life Care Specialist position is a response to the American opioid epidemic and aims to provide mental wellness and alternative pain management to trauma patients.


RESPONSIBILITIES



  • Work with patients to teach them about their prescription opioids
  • Provide a number of behavioral pain management strategies including, but not limited to: the skills of the Community Resiliency Model, Progressive Muscle Relaxation, and diaphragmatic breathing.
  • Assess the risk of substance misuse using the Opioid Risk Tool and communicate with the patients assigned medical team when there is an increased risk
  • Provide appropriate therapeutic interventions that are goal-oriented and individualized to the patient and caregivers
  • Provide patients with additional mental health resources and referrals
  • Go to all patient follow-ups and provide additional resources when needed.
  • Manage research portion of the LCS program: administer surveys, fill out data spreadsheets, and do basic data analysis


EDUCATION

Required:



  • Bachelor's degree in Behavioral Sciences, including Criminal Justice, Cultural Studies, Anthropology, or Sociology is required.


SKILLS/CERTS/LICENSES

Required:



  • Certificate of completion in Life Care Specialist Training Curriculum powered by Mercer University
  • Completion of Life Care Specialist Practicum and demonstration of relevant clinical shadowing hours
  • Background in psychology, mental health, mental wellness, social work, healthcare, or public health
  • Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Excel
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work on an interdisciplinary team.
  • Knowledge of hospital etiquette and rules
  • Excellent organizational skills


Preferred:



  • Certified Instructor of the Community Resiliency Model (CRM)
  • Knowledge of Redcap, data analysis software, or EPIC
  • Knowledge or coursework related to opioids and addiction
  • Certified Addiction Specialist (CAS)
  • Certified Child Life Specialist
  • Degree from accredited college or university
  • Research experience
