Role Summary
As a Senior Data Engineer at Associated Bank, you'll design and build modern data pipelines that power analytics and business insights across the organization. You'll lead initiatives that optimize data flow, enhance scalability, and ensure secure, efficient integration between on-premises and cloud environments. This is an opportunity to influence data strategy, innovate with advanced technologies, and help shape the future of data engineering at Associated Bank.

Key Accountabilities

  • Design, develop, and deploy secure, high-performance streaming and batch data pipelines across multiple data domains.

  • Lead the design and maintenance of scalable data pipeline architectures for both cloud and on-premises systems.

  • Champion DataOps best practices to automate workflows, manage code, and streamline data orchestration.

  • Identify and implement process improvements that enhance automation, scalability, and accessibility.

  • Collaborate with business and technology partners to translate requirements into robust, production-ready data solutions.

  • Optimize data processes and infrastructure for analytics, reporting, and enterprise data warehousing.

  • Apply Infrastructure-as-Code principles to manage and deploy data environments efficiently.

Education & Experience

Required:

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or related field (or equivalent experience)

  • 5+ years of experience in data engineering, building automated ETL/ELT pipelines and integrations

  • 3+ years of experience with cloud platforms (Snowflake strongly preferred; AWS, Azure, or GCP acceptable)

  • Proficiency in Python programming and advanced SQL coding/performance tuning

Preferred:

  • Master's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or Engineering

  • Strong understanding of relational, columnar, and NoSQL database architectures

  • Experience with dimensional data modeling and enterprise data warehouse design

  • Proficiency with Infrastructure-as-Code tools (e.g., Terraform) and data streaming technologies (e.g., Kafka)

  • Familiarity with API integrations and data formats such as XML and JSON
