Adjunct Instructor, The Art of (Micro) Food Journalism
Apply Annenberg School for Communication and Journalism Faculty Los Angeles, California The Annenberg School of Journalism at the University of Southern California seeks an adjunct instructor, specializing in food and culinary arts reporting and analysis, to teach JOUR 568: The Art of (Micro) Food Journalism: Los Angeles and California, Fall 2025. This course explores the wide world of food with a particular emphasis on Los Angeles, the Southern California region, and the state as a whole. It brings students together with food professionals, be they chefs, scientists, agriculturalists, restaurateurs, kitchen staff, or journalists. This multidisciplinary course is a point of connection, and its professor must be able to connect students to a broad mix of people, ideas, cultural analysis, literature past and present, and to teach classically nuanced food journalism practices that are relevant for today. Requirements for consideration include a B.A., B.S., M.S., or an MA degree in a related field (especially journalism, culinary arts, English, creative or non-fiction writing with a food specialization.) Previous teaching experience is desirable (three years is ideal). Journalism professionals who self-identify as editors, academics, investigative reporters or cultural analysts are welcomed, as long as they truck in the intense observation, cultural analysis and keen questioning of food - and have done so for at least three years. The hourly range for this position is $37.88 - $46.96. When extending an offer of employment, the University of Southern California considers factors such as (but not limited to) the scope and responsibilities of the position, the candidate's work experience, education/training, key skills, federal, state and local laws, contractual stipulations, as well as external market and organizational considerations.
