CFO / Controller
Location: On-site, 5 days per week - Brooklyn, NY
Essential Functions and Responsibilities
The CFO/Controller is responsible for managing the company's financial operations, ensuring the accuracy of accounting processes, and supporting organizational goals through financial strategy and analysis. Key responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Oversee all daily accounting functions, ensuring transactions are accurate and internal controls are properly implemented and followed.
- Manage monthly, quarterly, and year-end close processes; ensure timely and accurate financial reporting.
- Manage and develop a team of direct reports, providing leadership, performance feedback, and professional development support.
- Analyze and enhance accounting workflows to drive greater efficiency and improve resource utilization while maintaining data integrity.
- Lead the preparation of annual financial audits; collaborate with external auditors to ensure compliance and timely completion.
- Review and process accounts payable, vendor invoices, and inventory-related transactions.
- Manage accounts receivable and oversee collections activities.
- Process payroll and ensure compliance with relevant regulations.
- Provide financial analysis and reporting to support management in evaluating performance against strategic objectives and budget targets.
- Manage the company's cash flow, including forecasting and optimization of the cash cycle.
- Drive accounting operations to support profitability and financial health.
- Supervise accounting and clerical staff; provide onboarding and ongoing training to ensure team performance aligns with company goals.
- Contribute to the development of the annual budget and the execution of strategic and workforce planning initiatives.
- Calculate and distribute commission payments to the sales team.
- Oversee select HR and IT functions as needed.
- Support the development and monitoring of the capital expenditure budget.
- Prepare and file sales and use tax reports.
- Compile financial data for corporate tax return filings.
- Complete monthly borrowing base and lender compliance reports.
- Assist in preparing quarterly board meeting financial packages.
Qualifications and Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance required.
- CPA required.
- Minimum of 5 years of progressive accounting experience, including financial statement preparation, budgeting, and cash flow management.
- Proven experience managing a team, including direct reports; ability to lead, mentor, and develop staff.
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel, with the ability to create complex financial models, reports, and analytical tools.
- Strong attention to detail, accuracy, and organizational skills.
- Excellent communication skills and the ability to present financial data clearly to stakeholders.
- Effective time management and the ability to manage multiple priorities independently.
- Proven experience preparing and analyzing income statements, balance sheets, and cash flow statements on a monthly basis.
