Job Overview:

Ingersoll Rand is seeking a Senior Design Engineer to join our Industrial Technologies and Services team in Quincy, IL, Sedalia, MO, or Springfield, MO. In this high-impact role, you will drive innovation in our Positive Displacement Blower and Blower Package product lines, leading design and development efforts that shape both new and existing products. From concept to prototype to production, you'll play a key role in creating cost-effective, performance-driven designs while collaborating cross-functionally with Manufacturing, Quality, and Customer Service. This is an opportunity to influence product reliability, guide technical decision-making, and even contribute to patent-worthy innovations that support our customers worldwide.

Responsibilities:

  • Work with PD Blower and Blower Package product lines to improve design, performance, and/or manufacturing process.
  • Support Engineering efforts on critical projects which includes idea development, prototype, project execution, and plant/business system implementation.
  • Design and/or re-design new and existing product lines.
  • Produce cost effective designs, complex layouts assemblies, detail part drawings, and generate associated bills of materials.
  • Design and implement test programs to ensure designs are adequate for intended purpose and meet specifications and functional requirements
  • Evaluate existing products for re-design based on feedback from manufacturing, quality, or assembly and assess functionality to determine product effectiveness for customers.
  • Collect product data via reports, manufacturing, assembly, and testing.
  • Provide technical guidance to team members including Sourcing, Operations, Customer Service, and Marketing with respect to product-based education and decisions.
  • Work with team to standardize product offering through product rationalization and new product development.
  • Work closely with Customer Service, Field Service, and Manufacturing personnel to resolve issues regarding legacy and new products.
  • Project involvement in patent applications for new or existing products.



Requirements:

  • Bachelor Degree in Mechanical Engineering
  • 5-10 years of experience with rotating equipment design and manufacturing
  • Must have good mechanical aptitude.
  • In lieu of having rotating equipment experience, previous exposure to the design of industrial equipment and machinery in general would be appreciated.
  • Rotor and impeller profile design experience is preferred.
  • Strong proficiency in thermodynamics and compressible flow desired.
  • Solid Modeling CAD skills and experience with PLM tools are.
  • Hands-on experience with computer-aided engineering; Proficiency with FEA and CFD software.
  • Experience with ERP software, preferably using SAP ECC 6.0
  • Superior analytical skills required with excellent communication and organizational skills.
  • Basic understanding of design and manufacturing principles, with preferred experience in machining, casting, injection molding, fabrication, and gear design and analysis
  • Strong collaboration skills and demonstrated ability to work effectively across functions (operations, product management, sourcing, etc.)
  • Must excel in a fast-paced, dynamic environment-driving solutions, delivering results, and modeling accountability.



Core Competencies:

  • Product Design & Development - Expertise in designing, re-designing, and validating rotating equipment and industrial machinery, with strong proficiency in CAD modeling, FEA/CFD analysis, and PLM tools to deliver innovative and cost-effective solutions.
  • Engineering Analysis & Testing - Skilled in thermodynamics, compressible flow, acoustics, and vibration analysis with hands-on experience designing and implementing test programs to ensure performance, reliability, and compliance with specifications.
  • Manufacturing & Process Integration - Strong knowledge of machining, casting, molding, and fabrication processes with proven ability to optimize designs for manufacturability, improve production efficiency, and support plant operations.
  • Cross-Functional Leadership & Collaboration - Demonstrated ability to partner with operations, sourcing, customer service, and marketing to drive product rationalization, resolve technical issues, and provide technical guidance across the organization.



Preferences:

  • Master's Degree preferred
  • Experience in acoustic and vibration analysis is highly desired.
  • Plant or manufacturing operations experience is strongly preferred.
  • Ansys and/or Converge software experience is preferred.
  • PTC Creo, Autodesk Inventor, SolidWorks, and/or Windchill is preferred.



Travel and Work Arrangements

  • This role is onsite in Sedalia or Springfield, MO or Quincy, IL
  • The position is 2 days WFH, 3 onsite
  • Limited travel anticipated less than 10% to the other sites

The pay range considers a wide range of factors that include a candidate's skills; experience and training; licensure and certifications; and geographic location.
