Position Summary:
We have an exciting opportunity to join our team as a Research Data Associate.
In this role, the successful candidate will be responsible for providing direct data and/or clinical research in support of research studies and general research under direct supervision. Responsible for execution of select population health data science, statistical, and other epidemiologic analyses in the NYU Langone Health Department of Neurology, working with the Principal Investigators (PIs), fellows, and coordinator staff. In collaboration, the Research Data Associate may also be responsible for or assist with the following: digital curation of existing and future datasets and analyses; project design and management; ensuring accurate execution of research protocols in accordance with Good Clinical Practices, HIPAA, and required obligations to patient/participant, PI, research team, and sponsor; may interface directly with PIs and collaborators in support of studies, if applicable; the preparation of presentation materials, if applicable; protocol, manuscript, and grant preparations. Will collaborate and consult with the Framingham Heart Study Neurology Group Biostatistical and Data Management Team.
Job Responsibilities:
- Utilizes established methodologies to collect patient information for the research project(s); gathers and compiles data, statistics and other materials as needed. Inputs clinical and non-clinical data into the database and or case report forms. Extracts data for publications, or provides data collection from outside physicians offices. May perform library searches and retrieve reference materials from various sources; request articles from medical journals.
- Acts as an internal auditor during quarterly internal audits for other studies, is aware of study regulatory status and keeps an up to date copy of regulatory documents.
- Demonstrate knowledge of policies and procedures of the host institution where the study is being conducted, including the regulatory requirements such as IRB and other approvals if necessary.
- Collaborates with various personnel that may be involved in assisting with specific aspects in the study.
- Compiles data and assists in consolidating and analyzing data for presentation to sponsoring and regulatory agencies. Reviews data with supervisor and then provides reports to all parties (e.g., data and safety monitoring committee, the principal investigator, sponsoring agency, etc.) on the progress of the study.
- Ensures protocol compliance. Follows standard steps regarding eligibility criteria, follow-up process and documentation.
- Research Activities: Research, collect, compile, and conduct analyses of data, statistics, and other materials. Develop and implement approaches for network graph modeling, analysis, and data visualization. Develop and implement supervised and unsupervised machine learning approaches for classifying health states, predicting disease severity and trajectory, uncovering latent features and latent classes in healthy brain/cognitive aging and neurodegenerative disease states. Develop pipeline for training deep learning models, including recurrent neural network architectures and autoencoders. Extract and visualize features from time series data, creatively applying a broad range of methods (e.g., HMMs, SSMs, Gaussian Processes, and spectral analysis). Use coding best practices. Make methods and de-identified data widely available. Engage existing collaborations and form new collaborations to facilitate learning and/or development of new methods to solve tangible, meaningful challenges in medicine and population health.
Minimum Qualifications:
To qualify you must have a Associate's degree plus one year related experience or equivalent combination of education and experience. Computer literate with good interpersonal, writing and verbal communication skills.
Preferred Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree, preferably in data science, statistics, or equivalent in a related discipline; or, 1-2 years experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Prior experience in a health care settings.
Knowledge of health data science techniques; computational skills with network graph modeling, analysis, and data
visualization/animation; and, working with large datasets, preferably with very-high-frequency, very-high-dimensional data.
Effective oral, written, communication, interpersonal skills. Working knowledge of scientific writing and publication. Interest in the field of population health data science, biostatistics, Alzheimers disease, neurodegenerative diseases, neuroscience, or related fields.
Proficiency in statistical and programing software (Preferred: Python, R, SAS, and/or Stata. Optional: C, SQL, Linux, ArcGIS/ArcMap, QGIS, online social media APIs, R Markdown). Familiar with using various Microsoft Office applications, such as Word, Excel, Access, Power Point and Outlook. Familiar with team/project management programs (e.g., GitHub, Trello, JIRA) as well as cloud storage and computing services (e.g., Dropbox, AWS).

NYU Langone Health provides a salary range to comply with the New York state Law on Salary Transparency in Job Advertisements. The salary range for the role is $51,236.16-$55,000.00 Annually. Actual salaries depend on a variety of factors, including experience, specialty, education, and hospital need. The salary range or contractual rate listed does not include bonuses/incentive, differential pay or other forms of compensation or benefits.
