The salary of the finalist selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to departmental budgets, qualifications, experience, education, licenses, specialty, and training. The above hiring range represents the University's good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting.

Position Summary

The Department of Pathology and Cell Biology is seeking a Senior Research Worker for the Gross Room. The Senior Research Worker will be responsible for tissue examination of minimum complexity specimens limited to description, inking, and cutting off the specimens according to established SOP's. Limited to biopsy specimens.

Responsibilities



  • 70% - Tissue examination of biopsies, bone marrows, and hardware specimens. Review clinical and other pertinent information on test requisitions slips, specimen's container and other forms submitted with specimen. Photograph specimens according to established SOPs. Maintain specimen identity throughout grossing procedures by using AB&T bar coding according to departmental SOP's.
  • 15% - Provide various supportive functions such as grossing bench / instrument decontamination, hazardous waste removal, specimen triage, labeling of Pathology materials and specimen transport etc. Organizing and matching specimens, test requisitions slips, specimen cassettes and related material / records, heavy lifting. Calibration of faxitron, successfully carries out and maintains QA/QC procedures as per policy and procedures.
  • 10% - Maintains statistical records and other related records pertaining to the laboratory. File / sort grossed specimens pending disposal. Dispose of specimen waste including formalin fixed tissue, frozen tissue and fresh tissue. Prepare simple chemical solutions and reagents in accordance with established protocols.
  • 5% - Other duties as assigned.


Minimum Qualifications



  • Requires a Master's Degree and at least three years of experience, or a bachelor's degree and at least five years of related experience or equivalent in education, training and experience.
  • Must be eligible or hold one of the following licenses: Clinical Laboratory Technologists, Pathologist Assistant, Clinical Laboratory Technicians or Certified Histological Technicians


Preferred Qualifications



  • Experience with Copath or a similar laboratory computer system is preferred.
