Job Title: Outside Sales Representative - Chemical Distribution Department: Sales Reports To: Sales Manager / Business Development Manager Prepared Date: 03-2025 Position Summary The Outside Sales Representative is responsible for managing and growing a defined customer base while actively developing new business opportunities within the assigned territory or market segment. This role requires a balanced focus on maintaining strong relationships with existing customers and executing a proactive sales strategy to identify and convert new prospects. The representative will be expected to manage a dynamic sales pipeline, conduct regular face-to-face customer meetings, and collaborate internally to deliver effective solutions. Essential Duties and Responsibilities * Maintain and strengthen relationships with existing customers, ensuring ongoing satisfaction and repeat business * Identify new sales opportunities through research, referrals, cold calling, and networking * Build and manage a robust pipeline of prospects, moving them through the sales cycle from initial contact to close * Conduct regular in-person visits with customers and prospects to understand their needs, present solutions, and provide product support * Prepare quotes, follow up on proposals, and negotiate pricing in alignment with company guidelines * Collaborate with internal departments (customer service, purchasing, operations) to ensure seamless order fulfillment and issue resolution * Maintain accurate records of activities, customer interactions, and opportunity status using CRM tools or designated tracking systems * Stay current on industry trends, market dynamics, and competitor activity to inform sales strategy * Meet or exceed assigned sales targets and performance metrics Qualifications * High school diploma or equivalent required * Minimum 1-2 years of experience in B2B sales, preferably in chemical, industrial, or distribution environments (preferred but not required) * Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to build trust and credibility with customers * Strong organizational and time-management skills; self-motivated and results-driven * Comfortable working independently in the field and managing a flexible schedule * Basic proficiency in Microsoft Office (Outlook, Excel, Word); experience with CRM software a plus * Valid driver's license and reliable transportation required for regular customer visits Working Conditions * Field-based role with regular travel to customer sites within the assigned region * May occasionally require lifting product samples or marketing materials (up to 25 lbs) * Must be able to sit, drive, or stand for extended periods during travel or meetings |
