The director is accountable and responsible for the leadership and management of the assigned services, along with the supervising physician. The director translates the objectives, plans, policies and procedures of WVU Medicine into effective actions to ensure quality patient care and manages the human and material resources of the unit to provide cost effective care. Directs and ensures regulatory, accreditation and clinical standards are met. Coordinates and facilitates orientation, continuing education, mentorship, research and evidence-based practice development, and practice model innovation.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS FOR NURSE PRACTITIONER: EDUCATION, CERTIFICATION, AND/OR LICENSURE: 1. Masters'degreeinNursing 2. Licensure (or licensure eligible) to practice as an Advance Practice Nurse (APRN) in West Virginia required. 3. National certificationby one of the recognized APRN certification centers. EXPERIENCE: 1. Seven years Nurse Practitioner experience or combined as RN 2. Three years leadership/administrative experience 3. Administrative and clinical experience in academic medical center and/or a multihospital system PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: EDUCATION, CERTIFICATION, AND/OR LICENSURE: 1. Additional certification or degree in healthcare leadership (e.g., DNP, MBA, MHA, PhD) OR MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS FOR PHYSICIAN ASSISTANT: EDUCATION, CERTIFICATION, AND/OR LICENSURE: 1. Graduate of an ARC-PA accredited Physician Assistant training program 2. Certification by the National Commission for Certification of Physician Assistants 3. Must be licensed or eligible for licensure by the WV Board of Medicine or WV Board of Osteopathic Medicine. EXPERIENCE: 1. Seven years clinical practice experience as APP 2. Administrative and clinical experience in academic medical center and/or a multihospital system CORE DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:The statements described here are intended to describe the general nature of work being performed by people assigned to this position.They are not intended to be constructed as an all-inclusive list of all responsibilities and duties.Other duties may be assigned. 1. Works collaboratively with the Chief Nursing Officer, Chief Medical Officer, Hospital and Department physician leadership, medical groups, enterprise AVP for APPs, and any enterprise, regional, or local APP Oversight Committee to provide oversight of APP professional practice and program development. 2. With the Chief Medical Officer, oversee APP compliance with bylaws, policies, procedures, regulatory standards, and standards of care at WVU Medicine. 3. Works collaboratively with the clinical department Chairs, Medical Staff Officers, the Legal Department and Human Resources on oversight of APP professionalism, behavior, and discipline. 4. With physician leaders, defines patient populations that should receive care from APPs. 5. With physician leaders, develops clinical practice guidelines for standardization of evidence-based care. 6. Provides feedback and coaching to APP leaders. 7. With physician leaders, oversees conduct of The Joint Commission requirements on Ongoing Professional Practice Evaluation (OPPE) and Focused Professional Practice Evaluation (FPPE) for APPs. 8. Works with medical and nursing leadership, as well as the Provider Recruitment team, to provide oversight of the APP selection process, and input on specific hiring decisions. 9. Provides input and serves as the point of contact for scope of practice and privileging questions for the Central Verification Office (CVO). 10. Works with leadership to identify competency requirements for specific privileges. 11. Provides input to the APP onboarding process, ensuring standardization while still recognizing clinical specialty and clinical site variations. 12. In collaboration with leadership, oversees APP professional development, ensures APPs participate in required and appropriate continuing education, and promotes continued learning and ongoing evaluation of education gaps in APP performance. 13. Supports the education of other members of the healthcare team, including students in nursing, medicine, and allied health professions. 14. Works with local leadership to monitor and maximize APP clinical contribution utilizing productivity metrics, ROI, top-of-license practice, and team-based care. 15. With the VP Quality and Patient Safety, leads and participates in quality, safety, clinical process, and patient experience improvement initiatives. Uses influence for the adoption of best practices. 16. Leads APP Councils or Committees for the region. 17. Keeps the Chief Medical Officer apprised of significant issues involving the APPs. 18. Actively works to promote APP engagement. 19. Serves on committees to enhance patient care and operations. 20. Performs other duties as assigned by the Chief Medical Officer. 21. Maintains clinical practice within his/her specialty. 30% clinical effort is encouraged.
