Job Summary:
Operate and maintain the Central Utility Plant high high-pressure steam boilers and auxiliaries, in a safe and efficient manner, under the direct supervision of the shift operating engineer.

Specific Responsibilities:
- Operates boilers and accompanying ancillary equipment as instructed, maintaining proper steam pressure and water levels and insuring safe and reliable operation of the equipment.
- Maintains neat and accurate operating and maintenance log entries as required.
- Performs daily water treatment tests on boilers/closed loops, maintaining proper chemical levels.
- Willingness to work shift vacancies caused by vacations or openings.
- Willingness to work shift maintenance when scheduled or required.

Minimum Qualifications: (Education, experience, and any other certifications or clearances)
- Minimum of a high school diploma and two years of experience with high-pressure steam boiler operation.
- Good understanding of the steam cycle, and familiarity with boiler components and accompanying auxiliary equipment.
- Mechanical aptitude and proven ability to maintain operating standards.
- Knowledge of occupational hazards and recurring safety precautions.
- Must be a member of Operating Engineers Local 399, or join after satisfactory completion of a 90-day probationary period.
- Must be able to work rotating shifts and holidays.

Preferred Qualifications: (Education and experience)
- Stationary engineer's license or equivalent certification;
- Proficiency with mobile devices, including iOS;
- Proficiency with software program,s including Microsoft Office applications such as Word, Excel, and Outlook.

- Knowledge of electrical distribution and safe working practices;
- Familiarity with the tools, instruments, methods, and standard trade/safety practices pertaining to mechanical, electrical, and plumbing;
- Facilitates open and effective communication, cooperation, and teamwork within the unit;
- Recommends improvements and opportunities to increase efficiency, safety, and reduce costs;
- Analytical skills including critical thinking, decision making, troubleshooting and problem solving;
- Achieves a standard of excellence with work processes and outcomes, honoring University and Department policies and all regulatory requirements.
Position is part of a collective bargaining unit. Pay for this position will be $42.79 per hour. Rate is determined by collective bargaining agreement.
