The Job

The Senior Manager, People Relations will lead the employee relations function, ensuring fair, consistent, and legally compliant employment practices across the organization. This role will provide strategic guidance to leadership, oversee high-risk employee relations matters, and drive proactive strategies to foster a positive and inclusive workplace culture. The Senior Manager will also lead and develop a team, ensuring effective case management and policy compliance while identifying opportunities to enhance employee engagement and mitigate risks.

You Will

Lead and oversee employee relations investigations by ensuring thorough fact-finding, documentation, and resolution of complex employee concerns, including performance management and workplace misconduct.

Provide strategic counsel to senior leaders and HR business partners on employee relations matters, including complex investigations, disciplinary actions, conflict resolution, and risk mitigation strategies.

Manage and develop a team of People Relations professionals, providing coaching, mentorship, and guidance to drive professional growth and operational excellence.

Ensure compliance with all federal, state, and local labor laws, with expertise in California employment regulations (e.g., CFRA, PAGA, wage and hour laws); multi-state knowledge is a plus.

Partner closely with Legal and Compliance teams on high-risk employment matters to ensure alignment with company policies and regulatory requirements.

Analyze employee relations data and trends to identify patterns, proactively address emerging risks, and recommend policies, training, and interventions that foster a positive employee experience.

Enhance and implement HR policies and programs, ensuring alignment with company values and evolving legal requirements.

Develop and deliver training programs for managers on employee relations best practices, employment law compliance, and effective leadership strategies.

Lead proactive employee engagement and retention strategies, working collaboratively with HR and business leaders to build a culture of trust, transparency, and accountability.

Drive continuous improvement initiatives, leveraging data-driven insights to refine processes, enhance policies, and strengthen workplace relationships.

Your Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Human Resources, Business Administration; or equivalent experience
  • HR certification (PHR, SPHR, SHRM-CP, SHRM-SCP) is a plus.
  • 7+ years of progressive HR experience with at least 3+ years focused on employee relations in a corporate setting.
    2+ years of people management experience, including coaching and developing direct reports.
  • Strong knowledge of California employment laws and a solid understanding of multi-state employment regulations.
  • Demonstrated ability to influence and collaborate with senior leaders and HR teams to resolve complex employee relations issues.
  • Proven experience in conducting high-risk investigations, handling workplace conflicts, and making sound disciplinary recommendations.
  • Ability to analyze data and trends to develop proactive employee relations strategies.
  • Strong project management skills with experience leading policy development and implementation.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to handle sensitive matters with discretion and professionalism.
  • Experience designing and delivering employee relations training programs for managers and employees.
