Job Overview

SUMMARY

The Energy and Environmental Sustainability Program Manager serves as a subject matter expert for the strategic energy management of Children's Hospital Colorado system of care. This role is responsible for the implementation and adoption of sustainable energy practices and consumption in accordance and collaboration with all state and federal guidelines. This role has oversight for the energy management portfolio, strategy and business case development, financial management, project planning and implementation, energy star, and all other related systems. The Energy and Environmental Sustainability Program Manager will consider water, natural gas, steam and chilled water as resources and endeavor to increase efficient use. This role will provide organizational-wide awareness, education, promote energy conservation and sustainable energy practices across the system.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

1. Promotes, develops, and manages energy conservation projects and monitors their ongoing effectiveness.
2. Strives to meet or exceed annual kilowatt-hour savings targets.
3. Develops goals, strategies and detailed plans for reducing consumption of all consumable utilities including electricity, gas and water in existing facilities; liaises with Property Design and Construction to ensure successful integration of energy conservation equipment and systems into new buildings and major upgrades.
4. Conceptualizes strategies and guides team to conduct applied research/evaluation studies related to energy consumption, sustainability practices and "green" initiatives.
5. Completes an organization impact analysis and defines a change management strategy and governance model; leads the effort to build a coalition of change agents who can genuinely support, communicate, champion, and sustain the change before, during and after the "green" or sustainability initiatives.
6. Coordinates efforts with other staff and consultants in developing and integrating an Energy Management Plan and sustaining the plan.
7. Work with facilities managers, industry trades and relevant stakeholders in leading development of standards.
8. Develops plans and budgets for capital retrofits and upgrades to existing building systems; researches and participates in the selection of energy efficient technologies for building renovations and new construction projects.
9. Oversees building energy use audits of electrical and mechanical systems and prioritizes initiatives.
10. Maintains detailed records, tracks usage, develops appropriate benchmarks, key performance indicators and preparation of annual budgets for the various utilities.
11. Keeps abreast of latest industry developments and legislation; evaluates, recommends, and implements best practices.
12. Leads the creation of educational and awareness campaigns promoting objectives; develops and implements team member awareness training on best energy management practices.
13. Applies for available grants and incentive funding from BC Hydro and various government agencies for energy conservation initiatives.

SCOPE AND LEVEL

Guidelines: Advanced full performance professional level work that requires additional knowledge, education, training or experience. Guidelines are generally in the form of stated objectives only with issues and factors largely undefined requiring the employee to exercise creativity and ingenuity in devising criteria, techniques, strategy, and methodologies for approaching assigned functions or projects.

Complexity: Duties performed involve concepts, theories, and concrete factors to be evaluated and weighed requiring a high degree of analytical ability, independent judgment, and decision-making. Acts as a subject matter expert in the field of expertise.

Decision Making: Exercises judgment and discretion, and is responsible for determining the time, place and sequence of the work performed.

Communications: Contacts with team members, clients or the public where some degree of discretion and judgment are required in carrying out a major program and/or function of the organization.

Supervision Received: Performs work with minimal supervisory oversight. Work assignment is generally unstructured and employee is responsible for organizing complex, varied, and simultaneous coordination of several functions, programs, or projects in various stages of completion.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • EDUCATION - Bachelor's degree in OHS, Public Safety, Environmental Science, Environmental Policy, Renewable Resources or Environmental Management, or related field
  • EXPERIENCE - Five (5) years of progressively increasing responsibility for sustainability initiatives in a hospital, university or non-profit environment.

Schedule/ Shift

  • 40hrs FT
  • M-F 8-430 - Based on dept needs

Salary Information
Pay is dependent on applicant's relevant experience.

Annual Salary Range (Based on 40 hours worked per week): $88,253.00 to $132,379.50
