Join our team as a Senior Software Quality Engineer!
This is a hybrid role based at Headquarters in Maple Plain, MN.
The Software Quality Engineer works closely with business analysts, developers, scrum masters, and software engineers on dedicated scrum teams. This position is responsible for ensuring the quality of our manufacturing and
e-commerce software solutions. Software Quality Engineers design, develop, implement, and maintain automated and manual tests and create defects for discrepancies. The right candidate for this role is effective at validation of deliverables and providing guidance on risk reduction.

You will
  • Execute on assigned tasks and contribute to software quality with support and guidance from senior resources
  • Seek input from relevant stakeholders and consider customer experience when reviewing requirements
  • Consistently deliver effective, clear, high-quality, manual and automated tests to provide coverage for new or existing solutions
  • Create defects with clear steps to reproduce for all identified issues. Perform initial investigation using server logs, browser tools, and other resources available - include details upon submission. Own and drive defects to resolution
  • Participate in code reviews. Provide thoughtful and actionable feedback. Respond to feedback with
  • Participate in 24x7 on-call rotation for high priority incidents and address issues with appropriate level of urgency
  • Drive discussions with manager about career growth. Actively seek opportunities to grow professional skillset
  • Model and promote Protolabs' defined quality best-practices and standards
  • Perform additional tasks as assigned
What it takes
  • Degree in Computer Science or related field, completion of a qualified bootcamp, or equivalent experience
Tooling and languages:
  • .NET frameworks, C#, Azure DevOps, Git, SQL Server, test repositories, automation frameworks
  • Experience working with agile, SAFe, or scum methodologies and processes
  • 7+ years of experience in software testing or development with 5 of those years including writing and maintaining automated tests
  • Experience working with event-driven services and web service testing
Hands-on experience with the following activities:
  • Software testing and defect identification
  • Writing manual and automated tests
  • Use of test and defect management systems
  • Use of code version control systems
  • Writing test code in object-oriented languages
  • Writing SQL queries
  • Use of integrated development environments
  • Debugging and troubleshooting issues
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Understanding of software development and testing practices and methodologies. Includes understanding of when to use manual or automated testing
  • Capable of reading and navigating functions and classes/modules
  • Understanding of web services, service-oriented and microservice architectures, and event- driven systems
  • Strong sense of accountability. Take ownership of assigned work, seek clarification or guidance when needed, and deliver on time
  • Ability to prioritize tasks appropriately based on impact and delivery dates
  • Ability to learn from mistakes and seek to minimize risk of recurrence without dwelling on them
  • Encourage feedback from peers and managers. Act upon it accordingly by looking at both strengths and growth areas
  • Share ideas to improve efficiency and effectiveness of the team. Encourage others to do the same by fostering an environment of collaboration and innovation

Physical Demands:
While performing the essential duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit; use a computer keyboard, monitor and mouse, telephone and printer; reach with hands, and arms, talk, see and hear. Work Environment:
Indoors (A/C); nonsmoking; the majority of this job function is performed in an office setting requiring normal safety precautions. However, there may be job duties that require the employee to spend time in the manufacturing areas exposed to machinery and noise; eye protection occasionally required. Occasionally works in outside weather conditions. Occasionally works near moving mechanical parts and in high, precarious places and is occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions, fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, risk of electrical shock and vibration. The noise level in the work environment is usually quiet to moderate.
