Responsibilities
POSITION SUMMARY: Under the direction of the Health Information Management (HIM) Operations Manager, this position is responsible for monitoring and correcting all potential document inaccuracies and duplicate patients' medical record numbers (MRN) for all STHS and Free Standing Facilities. The primary responsibilities will include to ensure the accuracy, completeness and confidentiality of patient medical records by reviewing documentation, identifying errors, and implementing quality control measures to maintain data integrity within a healthcare system, often requiring a strong understanding of medical terminology and compliance regulations. The System Analyst will also perform analysis of current business and system functions for needs and improvements, defines and evaluates different solutions, designs migration from the old system to the new one and coordinates system implementations. Responsible for reporting functions, follow-ups with depts and physicians for pending unbilled holds, system faxing issues, work the message center/coding edit tools and coordination of any automation of processes. System analyst works closely with the System HIM Director, Regional Coding Management Team and IS Department in support of departmental systems. Conducting regular audits to assess the overall quality of the medical records and identify areas of improvement. Monitoring and managing the EHR system to maintain data integrity. This position provides these services while maintaining the highest level of customer service and commitment to the Service Excellence Program. Qualifications QUALIFICATIONS: 1. Ability for abstract reasoning and a talent for explaining the abstractions in concrete terms. 2. Ability to empathize with people of many backgrounds functioning at any staff or operational level in the hierarchy of the hospital. 3. Ability to communicate effectively when presenting recommendations, tactful when identifying existing managerial problem areas, and patient and meticulous in implementation. 4. Ability to recognize, analyze and resolve complex hardware, software, system, and network problems. 5. Able to travel 25% of time. Travel to different facilities is required. 6. Flexibility of schedule. Must be available to assist with emergency system related issues. 7. Must demonstrate commitment and adherence to STHS's Compliance Program and Code of Conduct through compliance with all policies and procedures, the Code of Conduct, attendance at required training and immediately reporting suspected compliance issue(s) to the Compliance Officer. EDUCATION / LICENSURE: 1. Bachelors or Associates Degree in CIS or CS or a related Information Services field with 2 years experience. Minimum of 10 years experience in HIM operations (knowledge of suspension workflows, physician engagement and reporting functions) will be accepted in lieu of an education. 2. Minimum of two years of full-time experience in the following areas preferred: * Maintenance of computer communications equipment * Use of computer diagnostic software and operating system packages. * Computer software packages for word processing, spreadsheets, and databases.
