The Art Program in the Bower School of Music & the Arts at Florida Gulf Coast University invites applications for an Assistant Professor of Printmaking.
The Bower School of Music & the Arts currently offers a Bachelor of Arts degree in Art as well as minors in both art and art history. The Mission of the Art Program is to educate students and the community in the creation and appreciation of the visual arts; emphasize the importance of context in art history and contemporary culture; provide students with a clear sense of direction towards a career in the creative industries; and teach art with a lively awareness of both global perspectives and local responsibilities.
The Assistant Professor of Printmaking will teach a range of courses serving undergraduate students in the B.A. Art degree program; be closely involved with curriculum development at the course and program level; participate in program and departmental meetings; advance a personal research/creative scholarship agenda; and pursue service opportunities to the University and community. It is expected that this faculty member will evolve the curriculum to respond to contemporary developments in art and actively assist with recruitment and retention of art students. We are particularly interested in candidates with the ability to flexibly reimagine the role of Printmaking as it interfaces with the world and as it complements other studio art disciplines.

Job Description Typical duties may include but are not limited to:
- Plans, prepares, and teaches assigned courses, including developing syllabi, instructional materials, and assessments.
- Delivers consistent, interactive, and engaging lectures aligned with curriculum goals and accreditation standards.
- Maintains the highest standards of classroom instruction and engages in reflective self-assessment to ensure continuous improvement.
- Holds regular office hours and provides academic advising and individual support to students.
- Mentor students in developing creative works and finding vocational pathways as part of a socially and culturally engaged academic and regional community.
- Utilizes the University's learning management system and other instructional technologies effectively.
- Collaborates with departmental faculty on curriculum development and program advancement.
- Work collegially and actively on program development and assessment with faculty and staff in the Art Program, the Bower School of Music & the Arts and the College of Arts and Sciences.
- Ensures curriculum outcomes and accreditation standards are met.
- Establishes and maintains an active research program, including opportunities for undergraduate student involvement.
- Demonstrates evidence of scholarly publication and grantsmanship.
- Engages in continued professional development and maintains professional skills appropriate to rank and field.
- Actively participates in departmental, college, and university committees and meetings.
- Contributes to community, institutional, and professional service in support of the University's mission.
- Participates in faculty evaluation, student learning assessment, and required training activities.
- Communicates professionally and in a timely manner with students, colleagues, staff, and administrators.
- Upholds the highest standards of integrity, responsibility, and excellence in all professional activities.
- Complies with University policies, procedures, and the Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA).

Additional Job Description Required Qualifications:
- MFA in Studio Art or related fields from a regionally accredited institution or equivalent accreditation.
- Two years college/university teaching experience beyond the graduate assistant level with a demonstrated commitment to quality undergraduate education.
- Demonstrated experience teaching a wide range of studio classes.
- Demonstrated experience with current and emerging practices in the development of art and printmaking curriculum and equipment.
- Active record of exhibitions, professional activities, and community engagement.
Preferred Qualifications:
- MFA in Printmaking, Painting, Drawing, or related two-dimensional disciplines
- Three years full-time college/university teaching experience in the expanded field Printmaking with an emphasis on a blend of traditional and innovative practices in printmaking techniques and methods.
- Broad-based expertise in modern and contemporary issues in art with a vision for integrating community engagement with a studio art practice.
- Demonstrated experience with course and curriculum development for B.A. or B.F.A. Art or Studio Art degree programs.
- Demonstrated experience with learning management systems and online curriculum delivery.
- Demonstrated teaching experience in a variety of traditional and non traditional printmaking methods, including but not limited to: relief (woodcut, linocut), intaglio (etching, engraving, drypoint), lithography, screenprinting, monotype, collagraph, digital printmaking techniques, and experimental or mixed-media approaches to multiples or other print-adjacent practices.
- Demonstrated experience with and commitment to collegial and collaborative engagement with faculty and students.
- Strong leadership and organizational skills with an understanding of program and institutional assessment strategies.
- An established record of excellence in creative practice that supports the student population, the university educational environment, and the community as a whole.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
- Knowledge of major concepts, assumptions, debates, processes of inquiry, and ways of knowing that are central to the discipline(s).
- Understanding how to use digital and interactive technologies for efficiently and effectively achieving specific learning goals.
- Knowledge of critical thinking processes and understanding how to help learners develop high level questioning skills.
- Knowledge and skill in the use of inquiry-based instructional models and strategies.
- Knowledge and ability to use technology in various teaching modalities (e.g. Face-to-face, synchronous online or asynchronous online).
- Ability to collaborate with stakeholders both within and outside the University in the development and delivery of instruction, resulting in improved student learning.
- Knowledge of Printmaking's interface with artforms or practices not traditionally represented within academic studio art programs.
- Ability to collaboratively co-mentor students working across multiple studio art disciplines.
- Ability to participate in critiques outside the discipline of Painting.
- Ability to contribute effectively and collegially to a positive learning environment that nurtures student creativity and community engagement.
- Ability to teach art courses at the undergraduate level in response to current program needs.
- Ability to integrate digital tools in creative practice.
- Ability to teach creative conceptual development.
- Ability to contribute through research, teaching, and/or public engagement to the excellence of The Bower School of Music and the Arts.
