GENERAL SUMMARY


Responsible for the acquisition, retention, and expansion of new and existing customer relationships with entities from Greater China area. This position develops new business and client relationships and provides exceptional customer service by taking ownership of the customer experience from introducing the customer to Cathay Bank through profiling the customer, assessing their banking and borrowing needs, and recommending appropriate solutions based on a thorough knowledge of Cathay Bank's products and services.


China Desk team reflects our strategic commitment to serving the evolving needs of clients engaged in U.S.-China cross-border business. The team member will act as a bilingual, bicultural, and cross-functional bridge to enhance client acquisition, retention, product delivery, and market influence in the China-related business segment.



ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS



  • Assigned a sales goal (deposit and loan referral) annually. Spends more than 50% of time outside office to source and nurture new business opportunities then turns them over to the appropriate support employees and departments to finalize new business opportunities. Primary client base is those doing business in the US and parent companies are from Greater China areas.
  • Accomplishes business development through aggressive sales efforts resulting in quality growth of client relationships and deposit accounts, Commercial Real Estate (CRE) loans and lines of credit, wealth management and other bank products and services.
  • Ensures quarterly and annual sales goals are met.
  • Performs extensive cold-calling in the field and generates business through referrals within network and follows up on leads.
  • Builds a thorough profile for each customer and maintains frequent personal, phone or email contact to grow and penetrate existing customer relationships.
  • Identifies and profiles target clients.
  • Cross-sells bank products; refer existing and prospective customers to expand relationships and develop new business.
  • Provides superior personalized customer service. Maintains frequent customer contact to expand relationships and ensure customer retention. Refers clients to specialty departments, as necessary.
  • Supports corporate lending new business promotions.
  • Maintains open communication with Bank sales employees, Financial Consultants, etc.
  • Maintains an awareness of competitive products, practices, rates, and changes in the local market.
  • Represents the Bank to actively participate in China related business functions, social activities, Chinese business forums, consular events, chambers of commerce, and trade associations.



QUALIFICATIONS



  • Education: College degree with business classes preferred but not mandatory.
  • Experience: 5 - 10 years of experience in financial sector with minimum 2 years demonstrated sales experience with proven results in addressing diverse customer profiles and complex needs. Knowledgeable in banking products and services.
  • Skills/Ability: The ability to identify client needs, present banking solutions, and bank products. Recognize closing opportunities and retain and grow customer relationships. Ability to initiate customer contact through letters, email, telephone, or personal contact. Possess excellent verbal communication skills, as well as an ability to exercise sound, independent judgment. Excellent presentation skills. Strong work ethic. Pro-active, innovative, and driven. Possess excellent multi-tasking skills, working quickly and accurately to analyze information and make decisions as well as prioritize and perform a variety of concurrent tasks with minimal direction. Proficient in all Word and Excel software applications. Bilingual (English/Mandarin or Cantonese) a plus but not required.

VP: $97K - $133K / year
FVP: $104K - $170K / year
Pay determined based on job-related knowledge, skills, experience, and location.
This position may be eligible for a discretionary bonus.
