General Summary of Position We have a full-time opportunity for a Supervisor at our Transfer Center in Lanham, MD. This role will supervise and direct the daily operations of the MedStar Transfer Center staff and/or support staff. Ensures a seamless coordination of all surface and air transport requests made through the MedStar Transfer Center. Provides ongoing support and instruction to the MedStar Transfer Coordinators and Radiology Communications Coordinators. 2 years of communications center experience is required. This department is open 24 hours a day and coverage for day, evening, and overnight shifts is required. The shifts are typically 12 hours and every other weekend is required. Primary Duties and Responsibilities
Assists in the orientation of new MedStar Transfer Center and Radiology on-call personnel. Participates in staff on-going education. Identifies staff development needs. Completes daily staffing sheets and participates in staff scheduling processes.Attends staff and management meetings.Participates in data management activities to provide MedStar system level reports.Ensures that transfer requests are handled promptly, appropriately and courteously. Reviews, approves, prioritizes and assigns all transfer requests as needed. Ensures that the service is provided in accordance with approved policies, procedures and practices; and that status of request is communicated in a timely and appropriate manner.Functions as a MedStar Transfer or ROC as needed. Maintains a working and troubleshooting knowledge of all telecommunication and Transfer Center equipment (pagers, cell phones, portable radios, phone and dispatch system) and computer software.Monitors and directs workflow during assigned Shift and ensures work is completed accurately.Monitors quality control and improvement activities. Audits paperwork and databases for accuracy of information. Reports inconsistencies to manager and provides QA/PI reports as required.Participates in the development of transfer center policies and procedures including disaster planning, emergency preparedness and response. Provides 24 hour on-call support in case of emergencies, and as needed.Plans, coordinates, assists, supervises and directs the activities of the Transfer Center staff and/or support staff. Ensures there is a collaborative relationship between communications center staff. Utilizes effective interpersonal skills to identify and resolve any/all conflicts, decrease communication barriers and facilitates group effectiveness. Effectively relates to peers, customers, and leadership on a daily basis.Serves as a liaison between all MedStar Health entities and communication center staff. Explains policies and procedures regarding insurance, patient transport and standard practice. Resolves problems, conflicts and concerns.
Minimum Qualifications Education
- High School Diploma or GED equivalent required.
- Specialized and/or advanced clerical, technical or other vocational training in emergency medicine/communications acquired during the first 2 years of job-related training required.
Experience
- 2 years experience in a communications center required.
- 1-2 years Supervisory experience preferred.
Licenses and Certifications
- Current or prior NAACS certification is required at time of hire or within 6 months of employment.
- EMT - Emergency Medical Tech Current or prior registration as an EMT preferred.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Excellent verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills including radio and telephone.
- Excellent problem-solving skills preferred.
- Excellent data entry and keyboard skills.
- Proficiency with computer aided dispatch applications and general computer skills.
- Proficiency at spelling and basic mathematics.
This position has a hiring range of $23.19 - $40.61
