QUALIFICATIONS:
- High School graduate or equivalent
- Two years of experience as a line cook or equivalent formal training.
- Experience in custodial work strongly preferred.
- Demonstrate a positive attitude, with ability to work with people of diverse backgrounds and circumstances.
- Able to maintain a non-judgement attitude, professional approach and boundaries with clients.
- Able to handle emergency situations including crowd management and conflict resolution skills.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to work varying hours, including weekends and holidays if need be.
- Employment contingent upon successful completion of a criminal background check
RESPONSIBILITIES: Kitchen
- Season, cook & prepare food according to recipes or personal judgment and experience for shelter clients.
- Turn or stir foods to ensure even cooking, weigh, measure and mix ingredients using good judgment.
- Assist staff in planning menus, taking into consideration the monthly budget.
- Serve and arrange meals using portion control.
- Observe and test foods to determine if they have been cooked sufficiently, using methods such as tasting, smelling, or piercing with utensils.
- Store food at proper temperature for preservation and distribution, regulating oven, broiler, temperatures.
- Responsible for all food, kitchen and dining room safety and sanitary food-handling practices
- Daily clean kitchen area, equipment and utensils thoroughly upon completion of preparation & serving meals.
- Notify supervisor of any inventory needs.
- Maintain the standards set by the health department.
- Maintain production schedules to ensure both timely service and quality of product.
- Observe and implement all approved sanitation practices.
- Oversee that deliveries from purveyors coincide with the purchase order.
- Reports on any unsafe or unsanitary conditions in the kitchen or dining room.
- Provide coverage and supervision of clients.
Custodial
- Maintain a clean attractive environment throughout the building.
- Clean all restrooms.
- Empty all trash cans.
- Mop all floors.
- Vacuum all carpet areas.
- Maintain janitorial supply inventory.
- Perform other related janitorial duties as requested.
- Clean windows and glass doors
- Other duties as assigned as related to the position of Cook/Custodian

The employee must have the ability to operate a telephone, desktop or laptop computer, as well as the ability to access and produce information from a computer, and to understand written information.
