About This Role

The HVAC Technician plays a vital role in maintaining a safe, comfortable, and well-functioning living, learning, and working environment for Kansas State University students, residents, faculty, staff, and guests. This position works as part of a skilled team responsible for servicing, maintaining, diagnosing, and repairing air conditioning and refrigeration systems for Housing and Dining Services.
Duties and Responsibilities:
* Diagnose and repair commercial refrigeration and cooling equipment, including walk-in freezers, upright and chest refrigerators, ice machines, milk and ice cream machines, and water coolers.
* Perform preventive maintenance on complex systems such as chillers, cooling towers, air handlers, vacuum pumps, and related controls within large residence hall complexes.
* Install, service, and maintain HVAC, air conditioning, heat pump, and energy management systems across residence halls and foodservice facilities.
* Service electrical and plumbing components associated with refrigeration and air conditioning systems.
* Maintain accurate records, organize tools, and actively contribute as an engaged and productive team member.

Worksite Description

This position is On-site.

All employees must reside in the United States when they begin working to comply with state law. K-State is unable to provide remote or hybrid work opportunities for residents of the state of Idaho.


What You'll Need to Succeed

Minimum Qualifications:



  • Requires two years of relevant experience. Education may be substituted for experience as determined relevant by a hiring manager.


Preferred Qualifications:



  • Knowledge of tools, equipment and materials used in trade.
  • Knowledge of occupational hazards and safety precautions.
  • 4 years experience at the journeyman level
  • Ability to provide a high level of customer service.
  • Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.


Preferred licenses / registrations / certifications:



  • EPA Universal refrigerant certificate upon employment.
  • Prefer Journeyman Mechanical License
  • Valid drivers license
