THE POSITION

Through this program, you will build foundational experience for careers in public affairs, media, or government service. DESCRIPTION OF WORK

During your internship, you will learn how the Communications Office fosters transparency and builds public trust by ensuring the timely and accurate dissemination of information about PSP functions and public safety initiatives. Our office acts as the main point of contact between PSP, the media, and the public while responding to inquiries, coordinating press conferences and releases, and managing social media platforms. This internship will give you the opportunity to assist in drafting and editing press releases, media advisories, talking points, and public statements. You will also contribute to the development of social media and web content that will include proposals for posts, graphics, and videos. Additionally, you will assist in content gathering, writing, and determining the layout for the monthly Communicator.

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  • Full-time internship in Spring 2026
  • Normal business hours are 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM, Monday - Friday. Your work schedule will be negotiable within these hours.
  • Free parking!

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS

Internship Requirements:

  • You must be enrolled in an accredited bachelor's degree program (or higher).
  • You must have satisfactorily completed at least 60 college credits.

Additional Requirements:

  • This position requires possession of a valid driver's license. At your own expense, you may be required to commute to your assigned work location using your own vehicle.
  • You must be able to perform essential job functions.

Legal Requirements:

  • You must have no adult criminal conviction graded Misdemeanor 2 or higher under PA Title 18 (or its equivalent for out-of-state and federal convictions).
  • You must pass a background investigation and meet Criminal Justice Information Services (CJIS) compliance requirements.

Information to support your eligibility for the position must be provided on the application (i.e., relevant, detailed experience/education). All cover letters can be addressed to the Manager, Pennsylvania State Police Human Resource Office.
