Posting Summary
Rutgers University-Camden is seeking a Student Counselor II/Student Success Coach in the Division of Student Academic Success. The Student Success Coach ( SSC) Office offers an academic support, skill-building, and mentoring program for undergraduate students who are unaffiliated with other cohort groups on campus ( EOF, TRiO, Honor's College, International students). To promote a positive and successful learning experience and increase student retention, success, and completion, this office provides individual and group coaching, goal planning guidance, holistic support, student success workshops, and effective advocacy and referrals for problem resolution.
Under the supervision of the Assistant Director of Student Success and TRiO SSS, the Student Counselor/Success Coach ( SSC) serves as a primary point of contact for a caseload of assigned students and provides direct support services to participants with varying levels of academic and personal need. The SSC monitors progress toward degree completion, helps to identify, prevent, and alleviate barriers to success, assists in strengthening current skills, and ensures that personal and professional goals are established and attained. The SSC assists in planning and coordinating new student orientation, retention outreach and counseling, and summer transition programs. The SSC will utilize various methods, including appreciative advising methodology, positive psychology, and other coaching models to guide implementation of success strategies and initiatives to assist in the transition to/navigation of the university, and success throughout students' undergraduate career. Effective collaboration amongst a network of campus units (advising offices, Career Center, Center for Learning and Student Success, Dean of Students, Financial Aid, Student Involvement, Wellness Center, etc.) will be an integral part of the SSC responsibilities.

Salary Details Starting salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience, within university policy and salary schedules, as well as departmental budgets.

Qualifications






Minimum Education and Experience
Bachelor's degree or an equivalent combination of education and/or experience and a minimum of three years of experience in advising, coaching, or mentoring diverse groups of college students.

  • Ability to build and sustain relationships as well as collaborate with campus and community partners.
  • Working knowledge of student development theory, appreciative advising model, and other student-centered approaches.
  • Ability to motivate students toward success and achievement of goals.
  • Capacity to work independently and to effectively manage multiple tasks.
  • Ability to process/analyze complex information and effectively communicate it to students, parents, and/or administrators.
  • Strong knowledge of student support programs and ability to make proper referrals based on comprehensive assessments.
  • Demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion
  • Attention to detail and the ability to follow through with assisting students.
  • Strong organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills.
  • Ability to work evening and weekends as required
  • Ability to use personal computer and other office equipment.

Certifications/Licenses
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Preferred Qualifications
Master's degree in education, counseling, social work, or related field preferred. Experience using emerging technologies and social media to communicate to undergraduates preferred.
Equipment Utilized
MS Office, internet, computer competency in reading and evaluating spreadsheets, databases, student information systems, and other computer-based platforms including EAB and Qualtrics. Incumbent may use social media tools to communicate with students and other constituents.
