Position Summary:

Provides direct supervision of all land activities in seasonal residence summercamp. Ensures that all necessary activity equipment is available and in good workingconditionfor staff to use. Ensures that all necessary safety equipment is available and in good workingcondition. Supervises staff running land activities and prioritizes the quality of programming for all land activities.Assistsin training staff to set up, run and lead land activities.Maintains safe conditionsfor all land activity areas. Creates a safe and positive atmosphere that promotescampersafety and engagement. Provides a quality experiencetochildren and parents focused on youth development including the YMCA core values: honesty, respect, responsibility,caring, and faith.

Essential Functions:

  • Supervises land activity staff in program areas.
  • Plans and implements program activities that are culturally relevant,developmentallyappropriateand consistent with YMCA core values.
  • Assistsland program staff in delivering safe,funand effective land programming.
  • Delivers a safe,fun and effectiveprogram

    • Maintains current knowledge of all emergency procedurespertaining to landactivities.


    • Maintains constant surveillance of theland programareas when campers,guestsor staff are present.


    • Knows, understands, and consistently applies safety rules, policies, and guidelines forlandactivities.


    • Follows YMCA policies and procedures, including those related to medical and disciplinary situations, child abusepreventionand emergencies.


    • Takesimmediate action to ensure safety procedures are followed by campers. Follows up withsummer campdirector todeterminelong term solutions/actions,providestimelyandaccuratereports and follow-ups.

  • Responsible for completing daily tasks related to the physical operation ofland activityfacilities,equipment andstaff.

    • Works with the team toset-up thelandarea prior tosummer camp activities. This includes the completion ofinspection of facilities, ensuring necessary equipment is available,EAPsare in place for specific program areas, EAPS are in place for specific incidents, equipment preparation for land activities as directed by the summer camp director.


    • Observes all activity areas and is looking for damages and risks that are present at activity areas.


    • Participates in the completion of closing procedures following summer camp activities.


    • Assistsin training, supervising,monitoringand mentoring of staff at land program areas.


    • Conductscheck oflandfacilitiesand equipment for safety, cleanliness, organizationand good repair. Completes general cleaning, organization and maintenance offacilities and equipment. Notifiessummer campdirectorand CFTof needed facility and equipment repairs.


    • Ensures the availability of water and sunscreenat landareas.


    • Maintains workingrelationshipwith CFT.


    • Submitsrequests in advanceforadditional equipment and supplies when needed.


    • Evaluatesland staff based on performance,safetyand positive engagement with campers.

  • Participates enthusiasticallywith other program staff toprepare camp forsummer camper arrivals, departures, andspecial events.
  • Participates enthusiasticallyinprogramstaffandlandstaffmeetings and trainings.
  • Maintains positive relations withguestsand other staff.Conveysinformation on programs and schedulesto campers.
  • Attends camp marketing events and otherspecial eventsasdirectedand other duties allow.
  • Representsand promotes the YMCA in the local community and develops positive working relationships with other organizations, businesses, and governmental entities.
  • Develops and maintainscollaborative relationships with community agencies in service deliveryarea.
  • All other duties assigned

Required to remain alert to dangerous situations while sitting, standing, or walking for various lengths of time.

Current record of tuberculosis examination and/or current local health department regulations, examinations, and/or immunization as requiredby the local or State Department of Health.

Qualifications:

  • Prefer 2years of experiencein camp programming
  • Prefer 1 year in a supervisory role.
  • CPR, First aid and O2certifications and Child Abuse Prevention training within30 daysof hire date.
  • Prefer knowledge of, andpreviousexperience with, diverse populations
  • RopesFacilitatorCertification or experiencerequired.

Other Requirements:

TheLand coordinatorisrequiredto live on the camp property during the season.
