Position Summary:

Provides direct supervision of staff and campers,within specificvillage as well as the staff caring forcampersin thatvillage,in a seasonal residence summer camp.Creates a safe and positive atmosphere that promotescampersafety and engagement. Provides a quality experiencetochildren and parentsfocused on youth development including theYMCA core values: honesty, respect, responsibility,caring, and faith.

Essential Functions:

  • Supervises a groupof staff and campers.
  • Maintains supportiverelationshipwith the staff in their respective village.
  • Supports staff when camper issues arise that cause disruptions to the overall programmatic experience.
  • Available to staff and camper needs.
  • Assistsin deliveringa safe,fun and effectiveprogram

    • Maintains current knowledge of all emergency procedures.


    • Maintains constant surveillance ofthe staff and campers in their respectivevillage.


    • Knows, understands, and consistently applies safety rules, policies, and guidelines for activities.


    • Follows YMCA policies and procedures, including those related to medical and disciplinary situations, child abusepreventionand emergencies.


    • Takesimmediate action to ensure safety procedures are followed by campers. Follows up withsummer campdirector todeterminelong term solutions/actions,providestimelyandaccuratereports and follow-ups.

  • Responsible for completing daily tasks related to their respective village.

    • Works with the team toset-up activityareasprior tosummer camp activities.This includes tasks relating to clubs, cluster activities, evening programs, chapel,mail deliveryand cabin-clean up checks.


    • Participates in the completion of closing procedures following summer camp activities.


    • Conductscheck ofcabinfacilitiesand equipment for safety, cleanliness, organizationand good repair. Completes general cleaning, organization and maintenance of facilities and equipment. Notifiessummer campdirector of needed facility and equipment repairs.


    • Submitsrequests in advanceforadditional equipment and supplies when needed.


    • Evaluatesstaffasrequested, providesfeedback, and performstraining and behavior modification as instructed.

  • Participates enthusiasticallywith other program staff toprepare camp forsummer camper arrivals, departures, andspecial events.
  • Participates enthusiasticallyinprogrammeetings andtrainings.
  • Maintains positive relations withguestsand other staff.Conveysinformation on programs and schedulesto campers.
  • Attends camp marketing events and otherspecial eventsasdirectedand other duties allow.
  • Representsand promotes the YMCA in the local community and develops positive working relationships with other organizations, businesses, and governmental entities.
  • Develops and maintainscollaborative relationships with community agencies in service deliveryarea.
  • All other duties assigned

Qualifications:

  • Prefer 2years ofresident camp experience
  • Prefer 1 year of experiencein a supervisory role
  • CPR, First aid and O2certifications and Child Abuse Prevention training within30 daysof hire date.
  • Prefer knowledge of, andpreviousexperience with, diverse populations

Other Requirements:

TheVillageCoordinator is required tolive on the camp property during the season.
