ABOUT THE ROLE
 
 
The Safety Specialist supports the development and implementation of safety-related programs and processes meant to prevent injuries, fires, or other workplace accidents. The Specialist works to ensure the availability, readiness, and proper use of required accident prevention procedures, safety and fire prevention equipment, protective clothing, and devices, and first aid supplies. Sturgeon Electric's Commercial and Industrial (C&I) electrical construction division specializes in large-scale commercial electrical projects, telecommunications, traffic signalization, gas distribution, high voltage distribution service and maintenance to clients. We also offer design-build and pre-construction services and has in-house pre-fabrication and AutoCAD capabilities. Essential Functions 
 - Make recommendations and follow up to verify the implementation of corrective actions
 - Ensure effective communication and positive relationships between management, outside local safety agencies, and insurance carriers
 - Accountable for working with district operations personnel to establish safety standards
 - Support the creation of a system for communicating safety and health issues to include:
  
   - General employee/department safety meetings
 - Transportation related safety work on road construction or similar projects.
 - Observations and site audit results and industry trends
 - Formal safety training for safe work practices
 - Posting of various safety communications
 - Development of a safety suggestion system
 - Reduction in driver-controlled vehicle and equipment incidents
 
    - Provide technical support to district safety committees
 - Perform periodic job site visits of all crews to identify unsafe work conditions and practices; document and communicate site visit information with safety and operations personnel
 - May coordinate other supplemental inspections when new processes, equipment, substances, or previously unrecognized hazards are found to be present
 - Verify that corrective measures are completed, including recommendations of the safety committee, insurance carrier, and/or other safety consultants
 - Maintain records on safety inspections, and inventory of safety and fire equipment and devices
 - Facilitate the review and completion of corrective actions for all injury and illness investigation reports
 - Regular and predictable attendance
 - Understand and comply with the Company's Code of Business Conduct and Ethics and other industry-specific professional and ethical conduct standards, if applicable
 - Other duties as assigned
 - Essential functions of this position are to be performed in a Company-designated office or field location
 
  
 
ABOUT YOU
 
 
Qualifications 
 - Prior experience in the field as an apprentice or journeyman electrical worker working with electrical construction projects related to transportation, transmission, distribution, substation, commercial, and industrial beneficial
 
 
Preferred Education 
 - Bachelor's degree with awareness of subjects like health physics, and safety programs, industry hygiene etc.; combination of relevant education and experience considered in lieu of degree
 
 
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities 
 - Ability to travel into the field, visit job sites
 - Available for extended travel periods
 - Ability to tolerate inclement weather (hot, cold, wet, snow, etc.)
 - Proficiency working with computers and Microsoft Suite software to include Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook as well as Adobe and Photoshop
 - Excellent verbal and written communication skills
 - Knowledge and understanding of OSHA and other industry related safety regulations preferred

Compensation & Benefits 
 - Salary $60,000-$80,000 / year
  
   - Commensurate with experience, paid weekly. Posted salary ranges are made in good faith. MYR Group reserves the right to adjust ranges depending on the qualifications of the selected candidate.
