Summary

The Director - Cloud Data Engineering is a strategic and hands-on leadership role responsible for building and scaling cloud-native data pipelines and platforms. This position drives the adoption of modern data architecture using technologies such as Amazon S3, Apache Iceberg, Snowflake, Amazon EMR, Kafka, and PySpark, while embedding DevOps, Agile delivery, automation, and change management practices across the data engineering lifecycle. The Director will collaborate closely with business stakeholders, product owners, and cross-functional Agile teams to deliver outcome-driven data solutions that support enterprise transformation

How You'll Spend Your Time
  • You will architect and implementing scalable, secure, and performant data pipelines in the cloud using AWS-native services including S3, EMR, Lambda, Iceberg, and Kafka.
  • You will design and manage real-time, batch, and near real-time data pipelines to support diverse analytical and operational use cases
  • You will oversee the development of PySpark-based ETL/ELT workflows for batch and streaming data
  • You will drive automation across the data engineering lifecycle, including pipeline deployment, testing, monitoring, and data quality checks.
  • You will champion DevOps practices including CI/CD automation, infrastructure-as-code (e.g., Terraform), and observability tooling.
  • You will ollaborate with business leaders to gain support for a unified data solutions roadmap.
  • You will lead change management efforts to transition legacy data systems to modern cloud-native platforms, ensuring stakeholder alignment and minimal disruption.
  • You will collaborate with business stakeholders and product owners to translate data requirements into actionable engineering deliverables.
  • You will ensure data quality, lineage, and compliance with enterprise governance standards.
  • You will mentor and grow a high-performing team of cloud data engineers and technical leads
  • You will act as a bridge between business and technology, ensuring alignment of data engineering initiatives with strategic goals.
  • You will demonstrate outcome-driven leadership focused on delivering measurable business value
  • You will recommend process and system changes to mitigate risk, enhance performance, and maintain regulatory compliance.
  • You will partner with Audit and Compliance to assess and reduce operational risks through effective controls.
  • You will manage team performance and development using structured goal-setting, coaching, and growth opportunities.
Education & Experience Requirements

The required level of knowledge is normally acquired through a Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Business Management, or Management of Information Systems, a minimum 3 years of experience leading and managing a team, in addition to 8 - 10 years of experience with demonstrated track record of successful technical leadership in the execution of large-scale data projects including at least 5 years of experience with designing, developing and testing business intelligence & analytics solutions using proven or emerging technologies in a variety of technologies and environments. Appropriate professional certification (CISSP, CISA, CISM, GSEC, CRISC or related certification) is required.

  • Experience in performing operations and automation of various big-data ecosystems in production environments on AWS or a related cloud service
  • Strong understanding of BOKF business information systems
  • Experience designing, developing and testing business intelligence & analytics solutions using proven or emerging technologies in a variety of technologies and environments
  • Excellent understanding of IT security and risk management, strategic planning and related tactical initiatives
  • Thorough understanding of Information Security frameworks and best practices
  • Deep understanding of project management methodologies and application
  • Self-motivation, discipline, task focus, and a proven record of delivering high quality results within strict deadlines as well as within budget
  • Intellectual curiosity; superior problem-solving abilities and attention to detail; and prompt follow-through
  • Strong conceptual thinking and analytical skills with the ability to analyze complex problems that include interrelationships and dependencies in order to identify solutions
  • Ability to measure and monitor development metrics and demonstrate continuous improvement
  • Strong ability to effectively plan time, method, manner and sequence of work assignments for a team while balancing potentially conflicting demands from stakeholders
  • Exceptional oral and written communication skills with ability to present complex issues in a clear and concise manner to a broad audience
  • Available during non-standard business hours and weekends for maintenance and support items
  • Excellent leadership skills and experience managing diverse, highly technical teams
