Position Summary/ Department Summary:
Seeking a Per Diem Pathology Technician whose primary responsibility will be performing autopsies. This includes accessioning cases, preparing autopsy room, conducting external examinations and eviscerations, and ensuring the autopsy room is properly cleaned and maintained. In addition to autopsy duties, this position may rotate into the Surgical Cutting Room to log, accession and process surgical specimens.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Provide technical and administrative support for autopsy service, including obtaining and verifying completion of required forms and authorizations.
  • Prepare the autopsy room and cadaver, and assist the Pathologist during autopsy procedures to include performing external examination and evisceration.
  • Prepare the body for release and maintain related logs and records.
  • Clean and maintain equipment in the autopsy suite.
  • Log and accession specimens and enter orders for laboratory procedures and special stains according to established protocols.
  • May dictate gross descriptions and submit sections for processing.
  • Perform maintenance and inventory of the frozen section area on a daily basis.
  • Maintain specimen archives and inventories in accordance with retention guidelines.
  • Support tissue bio-banking program.
  • Assist with laboratory inventory and maintain an organized laboratory environment.
  • Ensure laboratory compliance with accreditation and regulatory requirements, and hospital and departmental policies, including safety, chemical hygiene, and infection control.
  • Follow established procedures for quality control and quality assurance, and ensure continual implementation.
Minimum Qualifications

Education:

Bachelor's Degree is required. Biological science or closely related field is preferred.

Experience:
Pathology lab experience may be substituted for up to 4 years of college education.

The posted pay range is Boston Children's reasonable and good-faith expectation for this pay at the time of posting.
