Technical Publication Solution Architect

Dayton T. Brown is a Leader in Technical Publications | Logistics | Engineering, & Test | Military Missions Systems. We have a perfect opportunity for a Full-Time, Technical Publication Solution Architect to join our amazing, talented team in our Technical Services Division.

This position is ideal for someone who brings strong technical publications systems expertise, including S1000D and military specifications, and the confidence to work as a customer-facing technical authority for major Aerospace and Defense Programs. You will be working directly with program managers, Subject Matter Experts, and external customers, providing expertise and 'Best Practices' in the development, integration, and sustainment of Aerospace and Defense logistics, technical publications, and training data.

You will also be responsible for the following:



  • Support program managers in S1000D implementation, including BREX Files, Business Rule Decision Points, SNS development, and DMRL planning.
  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with our customers, which includes attending virtual and/or in person meetings to communicate processes, technologies, potential risks, solutions, and options for action plans.
  • Lead evaluation of technologies, both new and existing, used across logistics, technical publications, and training development for customers.
  • Develop and deliver training on standards, specifications, tools, and workflows used for technical manual development and publishing.
  • Assist with technical proposals in response to RFPs as it relates to logistics, technical publications, training development and software solutions.
  • Ensure DTB's processes and workflows meet or exceed all specification and quality requirements.
  • Assist with technology requests, data integration, and automation initiatives across teams.
  • Stay current with industry trends, technology, and the future of technical publication development.

The ideal candidate MUST have proven success within a technical publication environment and the following qualifications:



  • 4-year degree in Mechanical Design, Computer Science, or equivalent.
  • 10+ years' experience in the development of technical publications for commercial or military programs.
  • Hands-on experience with technical publications development IAW standards such as S1000D, MIL-STD-3001, MIL-STD-3031, MIL-STD-3048, MIL-STD-40051, MIL-STD-38784, MIL-STD-2361, MIL-HDBK-2361, ATA 100, and/or iSpec 2200.
  • Extensive experience with markup languages (SGML, XML), Data Type Definition (DTD) and Schematron.
  • Knowledge of stylesheet (FOSI, XSLT, XSL-FO, CSS) development and update to assist in publishing output for various customers and program requirements.
  • In-depth knowledge of OxygenXML, Arbortext and Arbortext Publishing Engine, as well as Antenna House publisher.
  • Experience in leading and/or mentoring technical teams.
  • Strong oral and written communication, analytical, and critical thinking capabilities.
  • Strong background in Common Source Database (CSDB) management a plus.
  • Ability to work in pressure situations and to meet tight deadlines.
  • General understanding of technical illustration tools such as CorelDRAW, Isodraw, Adobe Illustrator, etc.
  • Skilled in batch processing and automation of illustration files, including .SVG, .CGM, .GLB/GLTF, and other common formats.
  • Strong computer skills; must be proficient in all Microsoft Office applications.
  • Be able to travel, as required.
  • Ability to obtain a DoD SECRET clearance if required.
  • Experience with programming languages such as Python, xPath, and other languages relevant to technical publications is considered a strong plus.
  • Experienced in developing and implementing automated process improvements and large data transformation solutions.
