Job Summary

This full-time, benefits-eligible faculty position at Mesa Community College is scheduled to begin in August 2026.

Mesa Community college is seeking a dedicated Engineering Faculty member to join the program and significantly contribute to enhancing the student experience across key areas, including engagement, assessment, enrollment, and retention. Primary responsibilities involve planning, developing, teaching, and assessing a diverse range of 100-level and 200-level engineering courses, and maintaining a minimum commitment of 15 load hours (30 clock hours) per semester. Beyond instructional duties, the faculty member will play a crucial role in student support initiatives, including developing and expanding programs for tutoring/mentoring, fostering student engineering clubs, securing, advertising, and administering internship opportunities, and cultivating a strong sense of community within the discipline. Furthermore, the role requires participation in college or district committees, engagement in ongoing professional growth activities, and collaborative efforts with colleagues focused on the overall advancement of the engineering program.

Essential Functions

* Instructs a diverse population of students in classroom and lab settings for a variety of engineering courses, with a majority of course load taught in-person.
* Develops written syllabi/course outlines, curriculum, and course materials.
* Uses the Canvas Learning Management System with their classes to support student learning; ensures Canvas materials are accessibility compliant.
* Assesses student knowledge of subject matter.
* Maintains academic support hours to assist and advise students.
* Facilitates activities outside the classroom for students (e.g., internships, undergraduate student research, clubs, experiences for students in the community).
* Contributes to department efforts, including program assessment, student retention initiatives, student success initiatives, and strategic scheduling of classes.
* Engages in the academic life of the college by participating in district-wide and campus committees and activities.
* Pursues continuous professional development in engineering and pedagogical practices to remain current with industry trends, attending conferences, courses, seminars, and workshops to promote the scholarship of teaching and learning.

Minimum Qualifications

A Master's degree or higher with 18 graduate semester hours in the teaching field* OR
A Master's degree or higher in the teaching field*

* The teaching field for this position is any engineering discipline

Desired Qualifications

A. Teaching experience (as lead, rather than assistant) related to engineering mechanics (e.g., statics, dynamics, materials, CAD) or electrical engineering (e.g., circuits, signal processing, computer organization)
B. Experience developing a variety of training materials related to engineering research, industry, or education
C. Experience engaging students in specific active learning approaches incorporating best practices from education research
D. Experience assessing others' knowledge, skills, or performance with a variety of summative assessment approaches
E. Experience in leadership roles on teams (e.g., committees, clubs, special events, projects etc.)
F. Industry and/or research experience related to mechanical, electrical, or civil engineering

Special Working Conditions

May be required to work at multiple sites or locations.

May be required to work evenings.

Travel to campus during the interview/selection process will be at the candidate's own expense.

May be required to sit for a prolonged period of time, viewing a computer monitor.
