Job Summary and Responsibilities

Acentra Health is looking for a SQA Test Engineer to join our growing team.

Job Summary:

The Software Quality Assurance (SQA) Engineer plays a vital role in ensuring the delivery of high-quality, reliable software solutions by designing, executing, and maintaining comprehensive test cases in alignment with established quality standards. Working with moderate supervision, this role applies structured testing methodologies to identify defects, analyze root causes, and validate system functionality across multiple environments.

As a key contributor to the quality lifecycle, the SQA Engineer partners with cross-functional teams to support continuous improvement, enhance system performance, and ensure that applications meet both business requirements and regulatory expectations. This is a fully remote position, and we provide all essential technology and home-office equipment, including a company-issued laptop, external monitors, keyboard, mouse, and necessary equipment.

Job Responsibilities
  • Functions as an individual contributor, working under moderate supervision with clearly defined objectives, guidelines, and expectations.

  • Follows established test plans and project guidelines, receiving day-to-day task direction and priorities from team leadership as needed.

  • Develops, updates, and executes test cases based on approved project requirements, functional specifications, and design documentation.

  • Performs comprehensive Software Quality Assurance activities, including but not limited to GUI, backend, interface, batch, regression, automation execution, and performance testing, while documenting results in accordance with project standards for defect management and test deliverables.

  • Assists with defect root cause analysis and verifies defect resolutions to ensure accuracy and completeness of fixes.

  • Supports Senior SQA Engineers in developing and maintaining test data required for planned test scenarios.

  • Maintains and updates the Requirements Traceability Matrix (RTM) to ensure full coverage of business and technical requirements.

  • Collaborates effectively with cross-functional teams, including development, business analysis, and project management, to ensure alignment and timely issue resolution.

  • Provides regular status updates on testing progress, risks, and results to project leadership and stakeholders.

  • Contributes to test planning activities, including effort estimation, scope definition, and testing strategy development.

  • Creates and contributes to test plans, test scripts, test scenarios, and other quality assurance documentation.

  • Proactively identifies, documents, and escalates project risks, defects, and quality concerns in a timely and professional manner.

  • Demonstrates working knowledge of SQA methodologies, tools, and best practices, and applies them to ensure that testing objectives and quality standards are consistently met.

  • Continues to build domain and business knowledge in one or more functional areas to enhance testing effectiveness and solution quality.

  • Adheres to organizational CMMI standards, quality frameworks, and established development and testing processes.

  • Demonstrates a strong commitment to customer satisfaction and operational excellence through high-quality deliverables and responsive support.

  • Provides professional customer support by addressing issues, responding to inquiries, and supporting user validation activities as required.

  • Stays current with emerging technologies, testing tools, and industry trends to continuously improve testing practices.

  • Participates in constructive feedback processes by providing and receiving professional, actionable feedback to support team growth and performance improvement.

  • Supports the technical development and test mentoring of Associate Software Quality Assurance Engineers.

  • Reads, understands, and complies with all corporate policies and procedures, including HIPAA Privacy and Security Rules and other regulatory requirements.


Qualifications

Required Qualifications, Knowledge, and Experience
  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution, preferably in Computer Science, Information Systems, or a closely related technical discipline.

  • A minimum of four (4) years of progressive professional experience in Software Quality Assurance, software testing, or a related engineering or technical field.

  • Proficiency with enterprise collaboration and communication platforms, including SharePoint, WebEx, Skype, and similar tools used in distributed team environments.

  • Strong proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Visio, with working knowledge of the full Microsoft Office suite.

  • Hands-on experience with defect tracking and test management systems, such as Jira, Azure DevOps, HP ALM, or comparable platforms.

  • Working knowledge of Unix/Linux command-line environments for system navigation, log analysis, troubleshooting, and execution of test activities.

  • Experience using database tools and platforms such as Oracle, SQL Server, TOAD, or equivalent technologies to validate data integrity, perform backend testing, and support comprehensive test coverage.

Preferred Qualifications and Experience
  • Familiarity with test automation tools and frameworks, such as Selenium or similar technologies, is preferred.

  • Strong understanding of and experience applying Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC) and Software Testing Life Cycle (STLC) best practices within both Agile and Waterfall delivery models.

  • Previous experience supporting applications within regulated healthcare environments is preferred.

Compensation

The pay range for this position is $84,800.00 - $106,000.00 annual base salary

"Based on our compensation philosophy, an applicant's position placement in the pay range will depend on various considerations, such as years of applicable experience and skill level."
