The compensation offered to the candidate selected for the position will depend on several factors, including the candidate's educational background, skills and professional experience.

Job Overview:

The Social Work Manager is responsible for managing the oncology social work team.

Required:

  • Graduation from an accredited graduate school of social work with an MSW (master's in social work) degree.

  • State licensure required by the NJ State board of social work examiners.

  • Licensed clinical social worker (LCSW) required

  • Minimum of two 2 years of experience in Social Work in a clinical setting required preferably with oncology patients,

  • A demonstration ability in casework and counseling, including a minimum of five 5 years of clinical work experience, preferably in a healthcare setting

  • Successful completion of all Orientation Programs.

Preferred:

  • Three or more years of experience in a hospital setting preferred.

Essential Functions:

  • Ensures team is managing caseloads efficiently and effectively,

  • Reviews caseload to ensure team applies knowledge of growth and development over the life span,

  • Discharge review as necessary,

  • Retrospective review as indicated,

  • Application of Milliman Care Guidelines and InterQual criteria, severity of illness and intensity of service,

  • Level of care changes, skilled, intermediate, custodial, Termination of benefits,

  • Collaborates with physician advisor on level of care changes, denials, and communication issues with other physicians,

  • Identification of inappropriate resource utilization,

  • When issuing a letter to the patient family concerning the level of care changes denial of days, etc,

  • explains to the patient family the UM process and federal regulations as they pertain to the individual case,

  • Interfaces with third party payers for the purpose of providing pertinent clinical data and for initiating and maintaining clear channels of communication to maximize reimbursement,

  • Screen patients in the pre-admission and admission phase in a timely manner,

  • Identifies patient family and system issues through assessment on a continual basis and addresses issues as necessary: communicates with Utilization Management Social Work, Applies knowledge of growth and development over the life span, Applies the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served on his or her assigned caseload, Infants, Adults, Pediatrics, Geriatric, and Adolescent,

  • Assesses data reflective of each patient s status and interprets information needed in order to identify each patients age requirements relative to his or her age specific health care needs,

  • Assures continuity of care is being followed for social work team,

  • Establishes appropriate source of payment for home care needs for team members to obtain necessary authorization,

  • Anticipates needs for services and equipment in the home,

  • Refers appropriately for visiting nurse services, oxygen services, intravenous services, durable medical equipment, transportation and other home care needs,

  • Effectively allocates and schedules resources,

  • Able to project and appropriately staff the unit department to effectively function to demand,

  • Utilizes resources both labor and non labor to maximize efficiency and quality,

  • Adheres to budgetary guidelines and targets proactively,

  • Manages budget variances and causes,

  • In response to individual and aggregate assessment and variance data, implements strategies to affect desirable outcomes for patients,

  • Collaboratively initiates, individualizes and implements clinical care protocols which consider admitting diagnoses and assessment

  • Utilizes internal and external data resources and systems to effectively meet patient and family needs,

  • Supports clinical decision making processes by utilizing existing protocols and practice, logic or scientific principles, qualitative and quantitative outcome evidence,

  • Works with social work team to identify and resolve any issues as appropriate,

  • Utilizes relevant research findings to select among options for managing patient care issues,

  • Contributes to committee and task forces as appropriate,

  • Participates in quality and cost initiatives as needed,

  • Holds self and others accountable for providing care that is safe, effective, and consistent with Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital standards of patient care,

  • Uses effective communication strategies with patients, family, physicians, staff members, and other professionals to achieve desirable or acceptable patient outcomes and a perception of satisfaction from the individuals involved,

  • Serves as a resource for interpretation of regulatory requirements DOH, TJC, as appropriate,

  • Data Collection

  • Oversees hospital personnel in the management of patient care outcomes on a daily basis, includes weekend rotation,

  • Professional Growth and Development,

  • Participates in professional self development through a variety of activities including completion of relevant continuing education,

  • Provides staff training, development, orientation, in-service, ongoing education, etc,

  • Participates in the development of the Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital patient care delivery system through involvement in site visits, presentations or professional publications,
