Position Summary: The Department of Civil, Materials, and Environmental Engineering (CME) at the University of Illinois Chicago (UIC) invites applications for a full-time non-tenure-track faculty position (lecturer or clinical) beginning August 16, 2026. The successful candidate will teach Engineering Surveying, Engineering Drawing and Design, and other required Civil Engineering service courses. The ideal candidate will complement the existing strengths of the CME department's instructional faculty by offering required service courses. Candidates with proven excellence teaching experience as the "instructor of record" (responsible for course development, course contents, delivery, and final grading) in an ABET accredited Civil Engineering program are strongly preferred. Applicants must hold a PhD in Civil Engineering or a closely related field by the start date. Professional Engineer (PE) registration-or demonstrated progress toward licensure- by the time applying for promotion, is required. A minimum of five years of professional experience is preferred. Successful candidate is expected to be an excellent instructor, interface with the industry and professional organizations to support our program and provide service to the university and the profession. Prior teaching experience in an ABET-accredited Civil Engineering curriculum is required. The CME Department has a vibrant civil, materials, and environmental engineering program. Faculty members in the Department are highly active in conducting cutting-edge and interdisciplinary research. The Department offers a BS degree in Environmental Engineering, BS, MS, and PhD degrees in Civil Engineering, and MS and PhD degrees in Materials Engineering, and currently has an undergraduate enrollment of about 480 and a graduate enrollment of about 170. The UIC College of Engineering has undergone tremendous growth in recent years; both COE faculty size and annual research expenditures have doubled to more than 200 faculty and $50 million, respectively. Campus-wide research activity has also grown rapidly, reaching $500M. The campus is in the heart of the modern, livable, vibrant, and diverse city of Chicago, and adjacent to high-tech suburban corridors that include prominent national laboratories and industries, offering unique advantages and considerable growth potential for interactions with industry. Duties: The successful candidate will teach undergraduate and graduate courses in civil engineering, including engineering surveying, civil engineering drawing and design, capstone-level engineering design, and other service courses. Additional responsibilities include mentoring senior design projects, advising student organizations, holding office hours, providing academic advising, participating in course and program assessment, and contributing service to the university and the profession.
