Medical Sonographers operate specialized equipment that transmits high frequency, ultrasound waves in order to produce
images of the areas scanned. Sonographer will perform advanced ultrasound scans that require delicate or exacting steps and
seasoned judgment.

Duties & Responsibilities
  • Independently performs advanced ultrasound procedures.
  • Consults with the referring physician regarding the patient's medical history so that the proper ultrasound procedure is performed.
  • Administer and interpret scans and recognize deviations from normal anatomy, contacting the physician when those deviations are found.
  • Assist the physician with advanced scans and invasive procedures.
  • Performs minor maintenance and repair of equipment and maintains quality control of equipment.
  • Schedule ultrasound exams when necessary.
  • Train resident physicians and other clinical professionals in the technique of ultrasound scanning; explain principles of ultrasound technology to staff.
  • Maintains medical records, records of ultrasound procedures performed, and others as required.
  • Participates in quality assurance activities.
  • May act as a supervisor/manager including overseeing work, providing technical and operational assistance, and assigning daily work schedules.
  • Performs duties at the lower level of this series, as required.
  • Perform other related duties and participate in special projects as assigned.


Minimum Qualifications Required:

  1. High school graduate or equivalent.
  2. Current/valid registration, certification or licensure in Medical Sonography, accreditation in sonography by the American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonography (RDMS).
  3. Two (2) years (24 months) of progressively more responsible work experience in the designated area of specialty.
  4. Current Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) Certification.
Note: A Bachelor's degree in a health care related field may be substituted for one (1) year (12 months) of experience.
