The Senior Maintenance Planner is responsible for supervising the efficient and effective use of planning and scheduling resources to conduct maintenance activities to maintain, improve, and build the manufacturing infrastructure. The Maintenance Department's purpose is to Deliver Great Performance by driving world class equipment reliability.

Scope of Responsibilities

The Senior Maintenance Planner is responsible for developing and coordinating maintenance plans that support safe, reliable, and efficient plant operations across a three-shift environment.



Key Responsibilities:



  • Develop and manage the maintenance work plan for a team of 30+ technicians, leveraging changeovers, weekend shutdowns, and extended planned maintenance events throughout the year.
  • Prioritize maintenance activities by creating detailed schedules, defining required parts and materials, identifying necessary crafts and skill sets, and coordinating resources to ensure effective execution of maintenance work.
  • Collaborate with the CMMS OEM to optimize system performance based on user feedback; maintain administrative-level responsibility for system organization, configuration, and continuous improvement.
  • Work closely with Production Planning to request and schedule maintenance windows, maintain visibility of upcoming production runs, and align capacity planning to reduce overtime and improve technician utilization.
  • Lead twice-weekly cross-functional planning meetings with Plant Stakeholders, Facilities, Engineering, Production, and Safety to align on priorities, address production gaps, and finalize weekend and shutdown maintenance schedules and staffing rosters.


Essential Functions / Key Responsibilities

  • Issue scheduled work orders and preventive maintenance (PM) activities to the maintenance team in accordance with the approved maintenance plan.
  • Coordinate with third-party vendors to schedule calibrations, service-level agreement (SLA) maintenance activities, and required job walk-throughs.
  • Communicate directly with contractor resources and monitor performance to ensure work orders are executed safely, on time, and to defined expectations.
  • Collaborate with the Inventory Coordinator and maintenance personnel to ensure PM kits, spare parts, and materials are staged and available to support overhauls, repairs, and planned work.
  • Develop, track, and report key performance indicators (KPIs), including PM and work order completion, technician utilization, and overall equipment effectiveness (OEE); update PCS and weekly performance reports.
  • Follow up with maintenance supervisors to ensure completed work orders are submitted in a timely manner and include feedback and recommendations for job plan improvements.
  • Manage and prioritize backlog work orders that require partial or full facility shutdowns, coordinating scope, timing, and resources.
  • Participate as a team member in process improvement and other continuous improvement initiatives as assigned.
  • Ensure equipment maintenance, calibrations, and preventive care meet food safety and regulatory requirements, with documentation accurately maintained and properly stored.

Specific Knowledge & Skills

  • Bachelor's or Associate's degree with a minimum of three (3) years of related experience and/or training, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Strong foundation in maintenance and reliability principles, including Reliability Engineering, Total Productive Maintenance (TPM), and Root Cause Analysis (RCA) methodologies.
  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate effectively across all organizational levels, functions, and departments.
  • Experience in food or pharmaceutical manufacturing environments preferred; chocolate manufacturing experience strongly desired.
  • Working knowledge of EHSS (Environmental, Health, Safety, and Security) requirements within a food production facility.
  • Ability to work effectively within a unionized workforce environment.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications and Computerized Maintenance Management Systems (CMMS).
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to evaluate data and drive continuous improvement.
  • Demonstrated leadership capabilities with the ability to influence without direct authority.
  • Highly organized with strong oral and written communication and presentation skills.



Salary: $83800 - $108930 / year



Other Job Requirements



  • Must be able to work seated or standing for at least 8 hours
  • Must be able to lift a minimum of 35 lbs
  • Occasional travel is required
  • Must be able to concentrate for extended periods of time paying close attention to detail
  • Regular office environment 50%
  • In support of the maintenance team, working in the field is required 50%
  • Conditions in the field include:

    • Ability to climb stairs and ladders; must be able to work from heights
    • Exposure to vibration, moving mechanical parts and loud noise
    • Capable of using protective equipment such as hard hats, safety glasses/goggles, safety shoes, hearing protection, air masks, respirators, etc. in the performance of job duties
    • Ability to work in extreme temperatures and will be exposed to heat, cold, wind, rain, dust, confined spaces, elevated areas, dirt, ash particles and fuel particles
    • Must be able to work outdoors in varying weather conditions
    • Must be able to kneel, bend, crouch and climb as required
