Job Description

Key Responsibilities

  • Review industry and OEM specifications and ensure these requirements are flowed down into internal specifications as well as to PCC's suppliers.
  • Review raw materials and finished products for conforming chemistry and mechanical properties.
  • Review metallurgical processes such as heat treatment, casting, and welding for compliance to program specifications.
  • Prepare detailed technical reports, documentation, and presentations to communicate internal stakeholders.
  • Plan trials and gather data to qualify alternate materials and or suppliers.
  • Conduct defect analysis on metallographically prepared samples via SEM and offer solutions for defect mitigation for a range of alloys.
  • Be on call 24 hours a day at least one week per month.
  • Provide ad hoc support to resolve production problems.
  • Provide occasional metallurgical training for employee orientation and advancement.
  • Other duties as assigned

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Metallurgy or Materials Science required.
  • Proven experience working in a metallurgical or materials science role, preferably in investment casting of aerospace product.
  • Strong understanding of the impact of solidification, heat treatment, and welding on the microstructure and mechanical properties of numerous alloy systems.
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and critical-thinking skills.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills for technical reporting and collaboration.
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a multi-disciplinary team.
  • Ability to work in a heavy industrial manufacturing environment.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Advanced degree in Metallurgy or Materials Science preferred.
  • 3-5 years of related work experience preferred
  • Experience with advanced characterization techniques (e.g., XRF, IGF, OES, and C-IR).
  • Knowledge of computational modeling and simulation software.
