Application Engineer III

Reporting to the Lead Application Engineer, this position plays a critical role within our organization. The Application Engineer III is responsible for the interpretation of complex customer specifications. This position analyzes technical specifications and drawings to select the most appropriate G&W product for the application/customer needs. Our custom engineering capabilities allow for creative solutions that allow us to satisfy nearly any application. An appreciation for deep technical knowledge of the product and application is needed to excel in this position as well as relationship building skills. This role provides guidance and instruction to less experienced Application Engineers on technical requirements, product knowledge, engineering standards, procedures and policies.

As an Application Engineer III you will:



  • Ensure all application engineering procedures are being followed by AEs during onboarding
  • Provide timely and effective verbal and written communication to our internal resources and Sales Organization
  • Understand and follow all departmental policies and procedures
  • Meet monthly team KPI targets
  • Able to independently quote all complexity level opportunities for all product families including standard Power Grid automation.
  • Able to quote non-standard Power Grid Automation opportunities with support from Sr. AE
  • Accurately determine the technical and commercial requirements of high complexity quotes

    • Assist AE I and AE II with technical and commercial requirements and participate in specification reviews when necessary
    • Select the appropriate G&W product to meet the requirements
    • Develop accurate cost models for both standard and custom equipment
    • Have an in-depth understanding of commercial aspects of bids, including competitive gross margin levels, lead times, and overall application


  • Able to interpret three-line/single-line diagrams to identify requested products and recommend additional suitable G&W solutions
  • Communicate these requirements to G&W's internal teams for engineering and manufacturing
  • Partner with customers and our Engineering team to develop custom solutions that satisfy the application
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with our internal resources and Sales Organization
  • Assist Sr. AE with onboarding of new Application Engineers
  • Assist Sr. AE and/or Lead AE with departmental and cross functional improvement initiatives
  • When opportunities arise, travel with the Sales team to help deepen Applications understanding


We are looking for someone who:



  • Holds a Bachelor's degree (B. S.) in Electrical Engineering or Mechanical Engineering from four-year College
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in an Application Engineering role
  • Excellent communication and mentoring skills
  • Ideally has a concentration in Power Engineering


What we offer you:

Typical pay is $71,200 - 92,600 annually.

This position is eligible for participation in our Quarterly Incentive Pay Program
