Job Description:

AMA provides technical support to the U.S. Army's Technology Development Directorate (TDD) at Redstone Arsenal in Huntsville, Alabama. This work supports the development, application, and advancement of high-fidelity modeling and simulation tools used in Army rotorcraft acquisition programs, including

Future Vertical Lift (FVL).

Key tools such as CREATE-AV Helios are used to analyze rotorcraft aerodynamics, structural dynamics, acoustics, and multidisciplinary interactions. With the recent introduction of GPU-capable Helios, ensuring software correctness, performance, and robustness across CPU and GPU architecture is critical to maintaining confidence in Army rotorcraft modeling and simulation capabilities.

About the Project:

The Rotorcraft Simulation & Software Quality Engineer will support Army rotorcraft engineering efforts through a dual role: Quality assurance (QA), verification and validation (V&V), and release support for the CREATE-AV Helios software, and Application of Helios for rotorcraft modeling and simulation. This position plays a critical role in supporting rotorcraft analysis and engineering applications and ensuring the reliability, correctness, and performance of Helios-particularly for its GPU-enabled capabilities.

Work location will be at Redstone Arsenal in Huntsville, Alabama.

Pay for this position is approximately $108,000 - $118,000 per year, commensurate with experience, and includes a competitive benefits package.

Responsibilities:

Rotorcraft Modeling and Simulation

  • Apply and enhance Helios to address Army engineering challenges in rotorcraft aerodynamics, structural dynamics, and acoustics
  • Develop, verify, and validate computational models to support rotorcraft design, analysis, and acquisition decisions
  • Perform multidisciplinary analyses involving fluid dynamics, structural dynamics, and comprehensive rotorcraft modeling
  • Collaborate with government and contractor teams to integrate Helios capabilities into Army programs
  • Document methods, results, and present findings at technical and program reviews

Helios testing, V&V

  • Run and maintain regression, acceptance tests and verify performance across CPU and GPU platforms
  • Identify, diagnose, and track software defects; work with developers to resolve issues and verify fixes
  • Support customer-reported issues by reproducing problems, performing root-cause analysis, and recommending solutions
  • Contribute to release readiness assessments and documentation for Helios software deliveries

Required Qualifications:

  • Substantial experience in computational modeling and simulation for rotorcraft aerodynamics and/or structural dynamics
  • Strong understanding of physics-based modeling and numerical methods for rotorcraft analysis
  • Experience with mesh generation
  • Experience running and validating complex simulation codes on HPC systems
  • M.S.+3 years or Ph.D. in Aerospace Engineering or Mechanical Engineering, or equivalent

Desired Skills:

  • Experience with software QA, V&V, or regression testing for large-scale scientific or engineering codes
  • Familiarity with GPU computing and/or heterogeneous CPU/GPU architecture
  • Experience validating performance and numerical consistency across different hardware platforms
  • Familiarity with CREATE-AV Helios and/or RCAS

This position requires U.S. Citizenship or Permanent Residency
