Aon is seeking a dynamic and visionary Chief Economist to develop strategic responses to economic trends and events, advise internal and external stakeholders on their impact and serve as Aon's voice on implications. This high-impact role will shape Aon's thought leadership, advise senior executives, engage clients across industries, and represent the firm in global media and policy forums. The Chief Economist will play a critical role in helping clients and internal stakeholders navigate a rapidly evolving economic landscape. This role can be based from any of our main Aon North America offices, ideally New York, Chicago or Washington.

What the day will look like


Client Engagement

  • Develop strategic, forward-looking responses to economic trends and events tailored to colleagues and clients.
  • Deliver tailored economic briefings to C-suite clients and boards across industries
  • Support business development by participating in key client meetings, RFPs, and renewals.
  • Collaborate with account teams to co-create economic strategies that address industry & client-specific risks and opportunities.
  • Serve as a trusted advisor during periods of economic uncertainty, offering scenario analysis and strategic guidance.
  • Adapt, develop and implement economic models to forecast market trends and assess policy impacts.

Executive Advisory

  • Provide real-time economic insights to Aon's CEO, CFO, and senior leadership.
  • Partner with Investor Relations and Strategy teams to align economic narratives with corporate positioning.
  • Guide organizational responses to economic crises and advise on strategic planning.

Internal Collaboration

  • Work across Aon's business units-Risk, Health, Wealth, Talent, Reinsurance, and Data & Analytics-to embed economic insights into solutions and go-to-market strategies.
  • Partner with Communications, Marketing, and Public Affairs to amplify Aon's economic perspective.
  • Support Legal, Compliance, and Public Affairs with economic context for regulatory and policy developments.
  • Contribute to internal enablement by equipping teams with economic tools, training, and content.
  • Coordinate with internal experts and, where applicable, lead research initiatives to produce policy briefs and economic insights.

External Thought Leadership

  • Act as Aon's lead economic spokesperson in global media and public forums.
  • Deliver timely commentary on macroeconomic developments and market-moving events.
  • Represent Aon at major conferences, including Investor Day and industry summits.
  • Develop and publish thought leadership content including white papers, podcasts, and economic outlooks.
  • Represent the organization in public forums and collaborate with external institutions like think tanks and universities.

Skills and experience that will lead to success

  • PhD or advanced degree in Economics, Insurance and Finance, or a related fied.
  • 10+ years of experience in economic analysis, public policy or financial services.
  • Deep understanding of global economic systems, insurance markets and regulatory environments.
  • Proven writing skills and ability to communicte complext ideas clearly and persuasively.
  • Strong executive and media presence and experience advising C-suite leaders.
  • Experience collaborating with external institutions and leading cross-functional research initiatives.

Pay Transparency Laws:

The salary range for this position (intended for U.S. applicants) is $155,000 to $200,000 annually. The actual salary will vary based on the applicant's education, experience, skills, and abilities, as well as internal equity and alignment with market data. The salary may also be adjusted based on the applicant's geographic location.

This position is eligible to participate in one of Aon's annual incentive plans in addition to base salary. The amount of any incentive varies and is subject to the terms and conditions of the applicable incentive plan.

Aon offers a comprehensive package of benefits for full-time and regular part-time colleagues, including, but not limited to: a 401(k) savings plan with employer contributions; an employee stock purchase plan; consideration for long-term incentive awards at Aon's discretion; medical, dental and vision insurance. This role does not accrue vacation. Rather, this role is eligible to take paid time off at the discretion of the employee and management in accordance with company policy and practices.
