SSAI seeks a Software Engineer III to support an Earth Science contract at NASA Goddard Space Flight Center. The candidate will provide software development, data processing, and operations support for the science data. Duties include but are not limited to:

  • Coordinate with the Mission Operations Center to receive planning products and submit integrated instrument activity and calibration plans.
  • Maintain telemetry processing, health monitoring, and trend analysis for science instruments and related spacecraft systems.
  • Maintain rigorous software testing and version control (Git/SVN) to track changes and support rollbacks.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in computer science, systems engineering, physics, atmospheric science or related field and 8 years' experience in software engineering or development. Or, the equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Demonstrated experience in satellite remote sensing and scientific software development and engineering (C, C++, Fortran, Python).
  • Experience with software configuration management.
  • Experience in data system operations and operational databases.
  • Demonstrated experience developing algorithms and software for retrievals of ocean color, aerosol, and cloud products.
  • Ability to integrate and test code and deliver executable products to operational processing systems.

Desired Qualifications

  • Experience with PACE or similar hyperspectral/polarimetric instruments, including Level 1C co-registration and multi-instrument data fusion.
  • Experience with automated validation and visualization tools, plus strong documentation, presentation, and collaboration skills.

Physical Requirements: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, walk, and use hands to touch, handle or feel objects, tools or controls. The employee frequently is required to talk and hear and occasionally required to reach with hands and arms and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. Must regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds, and occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus.
