Position Summary
The Research Specialist will work with the Qualitative Research Service ( QRS) at NC TraCS Institute to provide qualitative research support to study teams.

Duties May Include

Collaborating with QRS staff and study teams to:

  • Develop interview and/or focus group guides
  • Conduct semi-structured interviews
  • Facilitate focus groups
  • Analyze qualitative research data
  • Develop reports and other dissemination products


Providing capacity building and training to study teams by:

  • Contributing to/ providing guidance on the design of qualitative studies
  • Demonstrating, observing, providing feedback on, and/or guiding teams through qualitative research data collection and analysis activities
  • Supporting Qualitative Research Service trainings

Completing programmatic tasks, including:

  • Meeting with study teams to discuss and outline qualitative research activities
  • Creating and updating Scope of Work documents outlining agreed upon study support
  • Tracking and documenting service provision
  • Completing required training
  • Attending NC TraCS Qualitative Research Service team meetings

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements
Bachelor's degree in a discipline related to the area of assignment; or equivalent combination of training and experience. All degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions.
Required Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience
Excellent interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills.
Demonstrated experience conducting qualitative data collection and analysis, including:

  • Interviewing and focus group facilitation
  • Content/thematic analysis, including coding, using qualitative analysis software (e.g., Atlas.ti, NVivo, Dedoose)
  • Non-coding analysis approaches such as rapid assessment

Preferred Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience
Experience providing mentorship and coaching to study teams.
Experience with innovative qualitative research methods such as journey mapping.
