POSITION SPECIFICS

We seek a postdoctoral researcher with multi-disciplinary interests and experience in ultrasonics/seismology, rock mechanics and physics-informed machine learning. The research involves both laboratory work and the development of machine learning models for field scale applications. The successful candidate will work within Penn State Ultrasonics Lab (PennSUL) with graduate students on research activities related to projects led by Parisa Shokouhi (parisa@psu.edu) and Jacques Riviere (riviere@psu.edu). Laboratory work will include working with servo-hydraulic testing machines to carry out fault reactivation experiments with active and passive (acoustic emission) ultrasonic monitoring. Both laboratory and field work will include the development of physics-informed machine learning models to predict micro-seismicity. We encourage applications from researchers with backgrounds in acoustics, geomechanics and geophysics.

A Ph.D. in a relevant field is required by the date of hire. Review of applications will begin immediately and will continue until the position is filled.

Apply by: 1) sending a letter of interest, a CV including a complete publication list, and contact information for three references to Parisa Shokouhi (parisa@psu.edu) and Jacques Riviere (riviere@psu.edu) 2) completing an online application at: myworkdayjobs.com/Postdoctoral-Research-Scholar--Penn-State-Ultrasonics-Lab--PennSUL-_REQ_0000075218

Inquiries about the position can be sent to Parisa Shokouhi (parisa@psu.edu) and Jacques Riviere (riviere@psu.edu). Additional information about Penn State Ultrasonics Lab (PennSUL) can be found here: https://sites.psu.edu/ultrasonics/
