As an Estimating Intern, you'll gain hands-on experience supporting our estimating team on electrical, instrumentation, automation, and manufacturing projects. This is an opportunity to learn how projects are shaped from concept to proposal while developing technical, business, and collaboration skills in a real-world environment.

What You'll Do

Under the guidance of experienced estimators, you will:



  • Learn and apply Interstates' estimating standards, tools, and processes
  • Assist with quantity takeoffs and pricing
  • Support proposal development, including documenting assumptions and clarifications
  • Help interpret drawings, specifications, and P&IDs
  • Participate in estimate reviews and bid preparation
  • Collaborate with engineering, supply chain, panel shop, sales, and operations teams
  • Observe and, when appropriate, participate in client scope discussions
  • Complete low-risk tasks and small assignments with feedback and coaching
  • You'll gain exposure to real projects while building foundational knowledge in industrial electrical and automation systems.


What We're Looking For

Education: Pursuing a bachelor's or associate degree in construction management, electrical technology, engineering technology, automation, or a related field.

Skills & Interests:



  • Interest in electrical power distribution and control systems
  • Basic familiarity with automation components (PLCs, HMIs, MCCs, VFDs) is helpful
  • Ability to read and interpret drawings and specifications (or willingness to learn)
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Clear written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to manage time, meet deadlines, and follow defined processes
  • Willingness to ask questions and receive feedback
  • Curiosity and commitment to continuous learning
  • Prior field, internship, or industry-related experience is a plus-but not required.


Travel Requirements: Travel may be required and will vary according to business requirements.
