Job Summary

Reporting to the Director, EIA Health Quality, Safety, Ambulatory, the Analyst's primary responsibilities include: data collection, metric validation, performance and health outcome measurement, benchmarking, stratification, and visual presentation of analytic results. The Analyst is passionate about quality improvement and eager to collaborate with key clinical and business partners to identify analyses and reports needed to improve care delivery for our patients.

The Analyst works with the other analysts on the Population Health team along with partners in clinical leadership focused on performance improvement initiatives spanning multiple Population Health domains. The Analyst demonstrates knowledge of evidence-based clinical processes of care related to timely preventive services for adults and children, chronic disease management, and reduction of preventable inpatient and ED visits. This role is predominately focused on report writing and dashboard development along with chart abstraction, measure development and validation for UCSF Medical Center's participation in quality incentive programs. The Analyst will play a key role in ensuring that accurate and actionable data is reported to both internal and external stakeholders. Through chart review, analysis, and collaboration with analytic and clinical teams, the Analyst will help to demonstrate UCSF's ability to improve population health clinical outcomes and healthcare utilization.

The final salary and offer components are subject to additional approvals based on UC policy.

Your placement within the salary range is dependent on a number of factors including your work experience and internal equity within this position classification at UCSF. For positions that are represented by a labor union, placement within the salary range will be guided by the rules in the collective bargaining agreement.

The salary range for this position is $138,400 - $190,000 (Annual Rate).

Department Description

The EIA - Health Quality, Safety, & Ambulatory Analytics team functions as a liaison between the customer or partners in the organization (including clinical, financial, administration, education, and research domains) and technical resources to provide optimal analytic solutions to solve problems, answer questions and meet the needs of our customers. The team is involved in strategic and operational activities to drive change in behavior and ultimately outcomes using data and information.

Required Qualifications


  • Bachelor's degree in a related area and/or equivalent experience/training.
  • 3-5 years of data analytics experience in a similar academic medical center.
  • Epic Clarity certification and database access
  • Advanced expertise in Epic clinical and administrative workflows
  • Quality improvement or patient safety, knowledge, and experience
  • Demonstrated knowledge of HEDIS quality standards and other regulatory requirements.
  • Advanced expertise in Word, Excel, Access, and PowerPoint software programs or equivalents. Ability to run analytical (Excel and other) reports and summarize information.
  • Advanced critical thinking and problem-solving skills to manage highly complex information, assess problems, and develop effective solutions.
  • Advanced organizational and project management skills.
  • Advanced written and verbal communication skills with the ability to convey complex information in a clear, concise manner. Ability to produce and deliver presentations to diverse audiences.
  • Advanced interpersonal skills for effective collaboration with managers, professional, and technical staff.
  • Ability to work independently and in a team environment. This position requires flexibility to orient and work in all UCSF Medical Center locations.

Preferred Qualifications


  • Masters' degree in Public Health, Nursing, Business Administration, Health Care Administration or other related field.
  • In-depth knowledge of business intelligence functions, advanced analytics, industry standards and best practices.
  • Advanced knowledge and skill in internal databases, BI applications, tools, and systems.
  • Knowledge of OMOP database including common data model and standardization of data content.
  • Ability to serve as an advanced technical leader providing advice, counsel, and analysis on business intelligence issues.
  • Statistical knowledge
  • Demonstrated understanding of UCSF Medical Center operations and health policy trends.

License/Certification


  • Epic Clarity certification and database access
