DESCRIPTION

Under general supervision, performs a variety of work duties which requires specific knowledge and training in patient care duties within business and professions code of the State of California and/or the regulations The Joint Commission (TJC). These duties also include but are not limited to: environmental care functions, equipment/supply management and leaning/disinfecting the environment. Incumbents may also provide front office services on a routine or back-up basis. The Medical Assistant Specialist performs additional clinical responsibilities in specialized health fields and utilizes additional certification and/or training to support procedures, technical functions, or other higher level specialist duties as required. Performs other applicable Specialist duties as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
  • Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) OR Certificate of completion of a Medical Assistant training program.

  • BART or BLS at time of hire with commitment to get BART w/in 6 months of hire date.

  • Three (3) years of medical assistant experience.

  • Knowledge of EPIC, UC policies and procedures, and UC safety topics.

  • Knowledge of our procedure and sports medicine scheduling and rooming process.

  • Excellent communication skills at the level necessary for taking patients' medical histories, understanding provider and supervisors' instructions, and for accurately documenting patients' medical information.

  • Requires knowledge of medical terminology and online scheduling.

  • Ability to effectively communicate with patient population and staff while demonstrating a high degree of diplomacy and tact.

  • Culturally sensitive and demonstrated ability and effectiveness working with ethnically diverse populations.

  • Working knowledge of "Universal Precautions" demonstrates professionalism at all times.

  • Possess a thorough understanding of the importance of confidentiality and non-disclosure

  • according to the general standards set forth by HIPAA.

  • Procedural and EMR experience.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Medical Assistant experience in primary care.
  • Call center and front desk experience.
  • Bilingual: English/Spanish.
SPECIAL CONDITIONS
  • Must be able to work various hours and locations based on business needs.
  • Employment is subject to a criminal background check and pre-employment physical.

Pay Transparency Act

Annual Full Pay Range: $60,239 - $75,001 (will be prorated if the appointment percentage is less than 100%)

Hourly Equivalent: $28.85 - $35.92

Factors in determining the appropriate compensation for a role include experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs. The Hiring Pay Scale referenced in the job posting is the budgeted salary or hourly range that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position. The Annual Full Pay Range may be broader than what the University anticipates to pay for this position, based on internal equity, budget, and collective bargaining agreements (when applicable).
