Primary Function of the Organizational Unit
North Carolina Cooperative Extension gives our residents easy access to resources and expertise of NC State University and NC A&T State University. Through educational programs, publications, and events, Cooperative Extension agents deliver unbiased, research-based information to North Carolina Citizens
Duties and Responsibilities The Extension Administrative Assistant's purpose is to provide program, clerical and bookkeeping support, to the Extension staff including the Extension Director and Extension Agents. These tasks are to be done requiring little to no supervision. Major duties include:
- Provide administrative support, budget management, event planning, organizational communications and office administration.
- Provide clerical support and program support for agents, such as Horticulture, Family and Consumer Sciences and 4-H Youth Development.
- Performs office support duties of file management, purchasing and maintaining office supplies, reviewing/screening mail, processing outgoing mail.
- Data entries on: Postage and travel.
- Serves as Leave Coordinator for all staff members.
- Trains new secretarial staff or agents with Rutherford County or NCSU Extension Policies.
- This position must have knowledge of the total County Extension Program in order to assist all staff in continuation of educational programs during a position vacancy and assist the County Extension Director in training new staff members as positions are filled.
- This position is responsible for receiving and obtaining pertinent information on all samples (plant soil, waste) which are brought into the office.
- It serves as contact person between Extension office and county administration in all budgetary matters.
- Attends County Department Head and NCSU Extension Admin. meetings as needed.
- Assist Rutherford County Cattlemen's Association.

This position has responsibilities to maintain the daily office hours such as: bank deposits, e-mails, phone calls, face to face, memos, correspondence, record keeping such as in and out credit card use, Horticultural tools, supplies inventory, media schedule, Computer Contact for
NCSU Extension, files.

Monday - Friday 8:30am- 5pm business hours, with occasional flex hours to attend night and/or weekend events and to support agricultural programs. |

Graduation from high school and two years of related experience; or graduation from a two-year secretarial science or business administration program and one year related experience |
