  • Salary: $55,000 - $60,000, plus an annual bonus. Salary may vary based on education, knowledge, and experience.
  • Location: Location preference is at WEST's Corvallis, OR office, or a remote location in Idaho or Nevada will also be considered.



Job Description:


The Associate Botanist/Field Coordinator will be responsible for assisting in coordinating botanical field surveys for projects in the Western US, in collaboration with Project Managers and other botanists. This includes identifying the appropriate vegetation surveys for a project, assisting the PM in hiring field crews, training team members on botanical field protocols, coordinating/managing data collection, and conducting field surveys. The incumbent will be responsible for analyzing floristic and vegetative data and preparing survey reports.



Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:



  • Plan and conduct/lead botany-related field work, including rare plant surveys, noxious weed surveys, restoration and mitigation monitoring, natural vegetation community mapping and characterizations, and wetland surveys, where appropriate.
  • Travel will be required for this position especially during field season and may be up to 50-75% of the incumbent's time. This number may flex from year to year depending on office duties and project obligations, but is flexible.
  • Prepare rare plant and other botany-related survey reports and technical memorandums.
  • Occasionally conduct other survey work as needed that may include non-botanical taxa project duties (supported by subject matter experts and project managers).

Job Requirements

Requirements:



  • A minimum of a bachelor's degree in botany, natural resources or equivalent.
  • A minimum of three (3) years of job-related experience conducting botany-related surveys including rare plant surveys and assessments, quantitative vegetation sampling and/or monitoring, plant community/association mapping in the western US, especially Idaho and Nevada.
  • Proficiency with plant identification and working familiarity with relevant floras of the western US.
  • Experience with restoration ecology and developing seed mixes is desired but not required.
  • Exceptional and demonstrated technical writing ability.
  • Good organizational and data management skills.
  • Experience with MS Excel and spreadsheets.
  • Excellent communication and collaborative skills.
  • Experience with ESRI Field Maps and Survey 123.



After an offer of employment is made, the candidate must successfully pass a pre- employment background check, drug screening, and a DMV records check that meets WEST's minimum criteria to operate a motor vehicle on behalf of the company. A valid driver's license will be required.
