Job Description

The Nondestructive Testing Engineering team is seeking a motivated and dynamic engineer eager to pursue a challenging and fulfilling career specializing in advanced non-destructive testing. Join a talented team dedicated to developing cutting-edge non-destructive testing technologies for use in the laboratory, at supplier facilities, and in shipbuilding inspections. A successful candidate must be able to work both independently and in a team environment, as well as be self-directing and highly detail oriented. You will be expected to develop creative solutions using established and new technologies, be cognizant of all phases of your work including planning, tracking, operations, safety, quality, and technical writing.
Work in this area will focus on developing and applying novel non-destructive testing solutions to additive manufacturing, advanced manufacturing, acceptance testing, and automation. Perform hands-on laboratory development work and work with suppliers. The position offers the opportunity to complete necessary NDT certifications, qualify as a radiation worker, and travel to support NDT technology integration programs.

Required Combination of Knowledge and Skill
Bachelors degree from an accredited college or university in a related technical, engineering or science field and a minimum of 9 years of relevant experience; or Masters degree from an accredited college or university in a related technical, engineering or science field and a minimum of 7 years of relevant experience; or Doctorate degree from an accredited college or university in a related technical, engineering, science field and a minimum of 3 years of relevant experience; or Currently a Principal Reactor Training Engineer, Refueling Engineer, or Field (RPCO) Engineer at the Company.
Preferred Skills

* Experience applying nondestructive testing results to assessments of component quality or lifetime.
* Experience with ultrasonic testing (UT), radiographic testing (RT) or other non-destructive testing methods. In process or final certification in these methods.
* Experience in the development and application of phased array ultrasonic testing techniques.
* Knowledge of additive manufacturing techniques and impact on material structure.
* Software development/programming experience (.NET, C#, Java, or Python), data acquisition and analysis, and engineering analysis.
* Mechanical Engineering, Materials Science and Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Computer Engineering, and Physics degrees preferred.

Pay Range
$105,200.00 - $164,400.00 annually
Salary information provided is a general guideline only. Annual salary is based upon candidate experience and qualifications, as well as market and business considerations.

The Naval Nuclear Laboratory is operated for the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) by Fluor Marine Propulsion, LLC (FMP), a wholly owned subsidiary of Fluor Corporation.
