Position Summary:
Performs routine Electroneurodiagnostic procedures on adult and pediatric patients in both outpatient/inpatient settings, including critically ill patients in the intensive care units and in the Epilepsy Long-Term-Monitoring unit.
Key Responsibilities:
- Procedure Prep: Prepares patients and equipment for procedures. Obtains medical history from patient/families to identify and meet patient-specific needs. (e.g. physical/mental limitations, current physiological status regarding the testing procedure). Reviews procedure request provided by ordering physician, and complies with all standard lab protocols. Documents history in the technologist report.
- Procedures: Performs procedures according to Laboratory standards and protocols. Implements alternative methods or adjusts recordings to obtain optimal recording of clinical EEG, AEEG data. Prepares and adjusts recording equipment as needed.
- Safety: Takes appropriate actions during patient emergency situations and ensures patient safety, including electrical equipment safety in the Labs at all times.
- Administration: Accurately and thoroughly Completes documents, forms, and reports.
- Supplies and Equipment: Troubleshoots recording equipment and coordinates repairs as needed.
- Department Operations: Attend technical staff meetings and morning huddles, providing professional input for the development of procedures and protocols.
- Continuing Education: Participates in conferences and technical meetings on a local, regional, and national basis.
Minimum Qualifications Education:
- A High School Degree or GED is required.
- Graduation from an electroneurodiagnostic technology training program accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs and registration by The American Board of Registration of EEG and EP Technologists, Inc. (ABRET) is preferred.
Experience:
- One year of EEG experience is required.
- Knowledge of the international 10/20 system of Electrode Measurement.
- Ability to quickly and accurately measure and apply EEG electrodes on routine patients (e.g. 30 minutes or less with accuracy to 0.5cm).
- Ability to apply electrodes effectively and accurately withing 30 minutes with paste, tape, and collodion, on all patient types including behavioral, adult, child, and neonate.
- Skilled at interpreting EEG normal patterns, normal variants, and abnormal patterns. Recognizes awake and sleep patterns and is able to adjust recording appropriately in response.
- Basic knowledge of neuroanatomy and physiology, basic electronics and electrical safety, general knowledge of EEG instrumentation, pattern recognition, and various medical and pharmacological conditions that influence the EEG.
- Basic knowledge of editing/ pruning patient data.
- Basic knowledge of digital EEG equipment.
- Knowledge of infection control standards relating to patient and equipment including electrodes.
- Ability to function in a fast-pace pediatric multi-disciplinary team environment.
- Ability to communicate effectively, verbally and in writing.
Licensure/ Certifications:
- Certification in CRP is required within 60 days of hire.
- Registration by the American Board of Registered EEG/EP Technologists (ABRET) is preferred.
The posted pay range is Boston Children's reasonable and good-faith expectation for this pay at the time of posting. Any base pay offer provided depends on skills, experience, education, certifications, and a variety of other job-related factors.
