The Wounded Warrior Project (WWP) Peer-to-Peer Fundraising Specialist is responsible for the WWP signature 5K series, Carry Forward. This role supports the design, planning, and execution of these 5K events across the country and in virtual formats. Responsibilities include collaborating cross functionally within the organization and working with external supporters, volunteers, event partners, and vendors to ensure events are successful and generate revenue to support WWP programs and services.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Drive revenue growth and achieve campaign fundraising goals by building and maintaining strong relationships with team captains, top fundraisers, donors, and local sponsors to increase engagement and retention.

  • Collaborate with the Corporate Partnerships team to identify, cultivate, and steward event series sponsors.

  • Identify and secure community-level sponsorships for both city-based and virtual Carry Forward events.

  • Inspire new supporters while cultivating and retaining existing supporters.

  • Support the logistics, execution, and ongoing optimization of Carry Forward city series events.

  • Collaborate with internal teams to clearly define roles and required participation for successful events, including marketing, social, and program teams.

  • Serve as an internal liaison across departments to oversee event marketing efforts, ensuring alignment with target audiences, consistent messaging, and maximum return on investment.

  • Monitor participation and fundraising performance; track and report results against the approved budget to evaluate event success.

  • Develop and maintain relationships with vendors, consultants, and other external partners to ensure access to high-quality resources for ongoing event activities.

  • Travel as needed to provide onsite support and resources at specific events.

  • Partner with regional teammates to support WWP's Carry Forward 5K series.

  • Utilize technical platforms, e.g. Salesforce, DonorDrive, Monday.com, DMI, and Microsoft Copilot.

  • Assist in establishing appropriate levels of volunteer support for events in designated geographies.

  • Attend and actively participate in required training and/or meetings, including but not limited to New Teammate Orientation, WWP Cares, ASIST Suicide Prevention training, Leadership training, culture/team based training, or departmental huddles.

  • Other related duties as assigned.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & ABILITIES

  • Highly motivated, passionate, and creative team player with a demonstrated commitment to fundraising and event planning.

  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively in a team environment, with the ability to selfmotivate and work independently.

  • Excellent organizational and time management skills, with the ability to prioritize and complete assignments accurately and on time.

  • Demonstrated proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint, as well as internet-based tools.

  • Demonstrated success in, and understanding of, a sales-oriented role.

  • Ability to learn and use proprietary fundraising software and customer relationship management (CRM) systems.

  • Professional presence and demeanor.

  • Ability to provide a high level of service to a targeted client and customer base.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

  • Team player, with the ability to communicate effectively with diverse personalities in a tactful and mature manner.

  • Ability to troubleshoot, identify viable options, problem-solve, and make timely decisions.

EXPERIENCE

Requirements

  • Three years of experience in fundraising or sales.

Preferences

  • Three years of experience with nonprofit event fundraising.

  • Three years of peer-to-peer fundraising experience.

  • Three years of event planning experience.

EDUCATION

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in business administration, event management, marketing, or related field. Equivalent combination of applicable education, training, certification, and experience may be considered in lieu of degree.

WORK ENVIRONMENT/PHYSICAL DEMANDS

  • General office environment; temperature controlled.

  • May require lifting/carrying items up to 30 pounds.

For San Diego, CA Applicants: The estimated hiring range for this position is between $65,945 - $82,432 annual base salary,subject to a candidate's combination of experience, qualifications, and credentials. This position may also be eligible for an annual performance incentive.
